Not ready (financially) to do that just yet. Plus, what if the car gets totalled at the track? Will insurance cover? =) ....that horse was dead a long time ago ;) ....for the humor impaired, that was a joke > say, now that it has been 'modded' maybe somebody will want to buy > it? haa haa, couldn't resist! =) I was just talking about this with a few friends. For me, I could only buy a used car from a friend I know who had the car since day 1. If I knew someone who took care of the car just like me, I wouldn't hesitate buying the car if I was in the market. Unfortunately, I don't know too many 2 door M3 owners around here....and I'm talking about people whose cars I really know. Wayne's car is gone...well, I would never buy that one anyway ;) Hi WaYnE! And Jim's car...it's nice, but it has those darn flags on it...plus it's estrogen blue. Gotta be silver for me! =) BTW, I was thinking of having the silver tinted either in shadow colors or have pearlescent red/blue/purple painted on the rear passenger side of the motorsport flags.....dunno about that yet. #3. Initial info about steering racks - from Chester Wong

Date: Wed, 18 Sep 2002 22:09:09 -0700 (PDT) From: Chester Wong <chester_p_wong@yahoo.com> Subject: Initial info about steering racks Well, I've been checking the parts CD and it seems that the steering rack is the same across most E36M3s...that includes euro/m coupe/m roaster, etc. I did, however, find that the Z3 Coupe had a 2.7 lock to lock steering rack (I think ours is 3.25). So the big question is if this will bolt up. I don't see why not since the front subframe/suspension is similar. Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The factory trailer hitches I am familiar with have a 13 pin connector that duplicates *all* the rear lights, including the brake lights. You would get stopped and fined in these parts if you were caught towing an E36 on an unbraked trailer. But then, isn't adventure written into the above web address? -John '96 318is

Glad to hear that you're ok, that's the important thing. Hard to believe the insurance co isn't totalling this car. You have multiple panel damage including the trunk and mechanicals. The shop may be able to make it pretty again and align it on the rack, but it won't be quite the same. It'll probably feel the same driving, but the metal will have been work hardened, which isn't a big deal unless you get into another accident, then the damage will be worse because the metal has become more brittle. Additionally, the resale value of the car is now affected due to the damage. Many people won't even buy a car in a major accident, those that will expect a discount. You own the car, which is very nice, if you were planning on keeping the car awhile, you might as well. Unless the insurance company gives you a fair price on a buyout/total. One of my friends totalled his '97 M3 and the insurance co gave him a bit of a low price, but he was able to keep the car and sell it to the body shop for a reasonable amount. Between that and the ins co offer, he made out quite well. Something to think about... -josh ===== Josh Wyte Momentum Motorsports 508-833-3024 After 5 pm EST __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Not sure what you mean here. All panels that were damaged are being replaced. The fender is a bolt on, the door is being replaced and the trunklid is being replaced. The only items requiring more work is the rear quarter, tail section and trunk floor. Are you talking about the welds that will be used to install the new piece? > Additionally, the resale value of the car is now > affected due to the damage. Many people won't even > buy a car in a major accident, those that will expect > a discount. Just like the modded car thread, I think it depends a little on how the work was done. Let's not get into that but I see your point. How much of a discount would a potential buyer be looking for? $2 - $3k? I don't even know if that applies to me since I'll be keeping this car until the wheels fall off. > You own the car, which is very nice, if you were > planning on keeping the car awhile, you might as well. > Unless the insurance company gives you a fair price > on a buyout/total. Not sure how much they would want for the car... Thanks for the opinions, Chester ===== __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? As far as the "it won't be the same" stuff, if the shop really knows their stuff and does it right, the car should be fine. I had a similar experience this spring when I spun into a drainage ditch pretty hard in the rain (whew, its still embarrassing to say that) and bent the back end a good bit. My shop put it back where it is supposed to be, got the alignment just perfect (as verified by my usual alignment shop twice since then) and the car drives just like it did before the wreck. Absolutely no complaints. I would have been a lot more upset a few years ago, but as the car has collected more and more battle scars over the years I've learned to enjoy the way it *drives* and not worry that if you look at just the right angle in just the right light you can see a little ding, or (more recently) that the back end has been bent, bent back, and painted. Glad everyone is okay. You'll love the car when you get it back. #11. [E36M3] Front upper spring perch - from Jay W. Hudson

Date: Thu, 19 Sep 2002 06:34:31 -0700 From: "Jay W. Hudson" <jwhud@cdsnet.net> Subject: [E36M3] Front upper spring perch Group- I have H&R OE Sport springs on my '97 M3/2. Because these springs are a little larger, in diameter, than stock '96+ springs, the upper spring perch from a '95 is supposed to be used. While talking with Jay @ GC the other day, he told me he thought there was an upper spring perch that was the same diameter as the '95 that would lower the car by 10mm. Apparently, it has a deeper cup. He said he thought it might be off a 325Ix or maybe an E39. Does anyone know of this part? Year and model? Part number? Thanks for the assist. Jay
