Chester, From a financial standpoint, fix it and keep it since you'll take a hit if you sell it and you really don't have another model in mind. Then, drive it, mod it, track it, etc., till it drops. The OE Sports only dropped my front .25" and none in the rear. The Sports are supposed to be over an inch up front and close to an inch in rear. Since I'm running 255s all the way around, I don't want that much drop. However, 10mm in front might be nice. I'm happy with the height of the rear. #5. Modded cars and selling them - from Paul Elliott

Date: Thu, 19 Sep 2002 12:38:58 -0400 From: "Paul Elliott" <elliott.paul@worldnet.att.net> Subject: Modded cars and selling them Ok. Ok.. My bad. Since Im the guy who opened it, Id like to now close it. Not because its not an interesting subject to debate, but because for lack of empirical evidence, we're going to go around and around on this, and not make any progress toward a solution. Without numerous data, we're just not going to converge on a position with which we can all agree, apparently. So, instead, all we're going to have is a bunch of opinions, and, we all know what they say about them! Again, I have no intention of selling my car now, or anytime in the forseeable future. This was not about selling my car, although I did use the equipment on it for exemplary purposes in a few places. It was about an oft repeated opinion posted on this digest that modded cars are a liability to selling them. and about how, try as I might, I just could not find myself agreeing with it. I respect your opinions; I just dont feel the same way. I think we can leave it at that. Unless, you all have a desire to continue the discussion. Thanks for participating in the discussion! The green/yellow/red lights refer to oil changes. "Inspection" message signifies the time to perform inspection I or II on your car. See your owner's manual for details and/or buy E36 Bentley manual (www.rb.com) for DIY instructions. If you do not know for sure when the oil was changes last, do it ASAP. Use fully synthetic oil if you plan to stick with BMW recommended oil change intervals. > I'll be driving to Indy on wed the 25th, and was concerned about the > light red light coming on an staying on. The lights are there purely for your information. They have no direct effect on the car's performance. However, if you ignore them and do not perform regular maintenance on your M3, you will 10 times the cost of regular maintenance in replacement components. alex f

Andrew, Most E36 radiators go between 60-100K miles. It's not a question of "if", only "when". Mine blew at 69K miles on track in the middle of a 4th gear turn. Not a good place to loose traction to the front wheels. Two other friends lost theirs at around 70K miles. We did a group purchase from 1800radiators.com and got OE South African Beru units for $150 shipped. > Is there a way to check the pressure in the cooling system without a > special coolant bottle cap? It's not just a cap. The pressure test involves manually pressurizing your cooling system while you are looking for leaks and checking if the pressure drops over time. Nothing exotic. > Any other quick checks to make before I resign myself to the > professionals? If and (should more likely be) when I do resign myself > to the professionals, any specific checks to ask for? I can't think of any reason to panic yet. Order a new radiator. Then either install it now or carry it and two gallons of distilled water in the trunk for a few thousand miles until your upper (driver side) radiator neck falls off. I would replace it now. Hope this helps, alex f

Hey Gary, Grow a sense of humor, will ya? Sheesh. Nothing in Rich's post was a flame/personal attack/etc. He made an off-hand comment about the amazing similarity in your first & last names (I mean, come on, it is comment-worthy), and then followed it up with "Folks, I am just kidding above." You'll find there's a lot of ribbing/joking/sarcasm on this list (and on the Internet in general), especially by some of the "regulars" like Rich. Two things you'll need 1) a sense of humor and 2) a thick skin. Cheers, Jim Bassett - I've heard them ALL :-)
