Date: Thu, 19 Sep 2002 20:02:02 -0400 From: Will Land <wland@erols.com> Subject: Snow Tires / M3 Sway bars - all for E36 I have the following for sale: 1) A set of snow tires that I used for 2 months last year. They worked great but I currently don't have a use for them. These are the Michelin Pilot Alpin's in 235/45-17. They have 10/32 tread on them. They are practically new. I bought these from Tire Rack last year for $160/ea. plus shipping. I would like to get half of that back. I would be willing to sell these (3) tires for $270 which includes shipping. If you need snow tires, you wont be disappointed with these. 2) Stock sway bars (front and rear) off of a 1998 E36 M3 - -$100 plus shipping 3) Drivers side clear taillight (rear) from 4 door E-36. This is in working order but has a cracked edge on it. Less than one year old. BMW part #63-21-9-403-099 - $50 plus shipping. Please e-mail me directly if you are interested. I accept PayPal. Thanks, Will wland@erols.com

#2. Wheels/tires for sale - from Alain van der Heide

They're Mille Miglia Spiders, in 16" (yes, they will clear stock brakes on an M3. Kinda doubt they'd work for them P-car brakes some of you guys have). They have a set of 205/55 Blizzaks mounted on 'em that can probably get you through one more winter. I'm asking $650, and they're in the Denver area. Oh yeah, WOT, I also have a range hood for an island for sale. It's a brand new Vent-a-hood euro-line, bisquit colored (don't ask. I'll just say that we fired our kitchen designer). I'm asking $900. - Alain

#3. What Auto-X Class for 95 M3? - from Eric Dotson

Date: Thu, 19 Sep 2002 21:15:09 -0400 From: Eric Dotson <kedots@mac.com> Subject: What Auto-X Class for 95 M3? Hi guys and gals, After doing much research and spectating I've come to the conclusion that road racing is just not going to happen for me. I'm considering going back to being a regular cone-killer in 2003. My question is this: With all of the changes in the past few years, where is the M3 classified? Is it still in B Stock? BSP? What about these new Street Touring classes, are any of them a place for the M3 to be competetive? Thanks, Eric

#4. Body Shop Parts (was Baby needs new rack, paint job...) - from Michael Schaublin

Date: Thu, 19 Sep 2002 21:38:47 -0400 From: "Michael Schaublin" <mike_schaublin@hotmail.com> Subject: Body Shop Parts (was Baby needs new rack, paint job...) I did a little research into the aftermarket parts market for a US OEM rethinking its parts business strategies. Here's what I learned that's relevant to crash repair: - most insurance companies stipulate they will provide parts of like quality to what was on the car. In practice, that means insurers will pay for OEM parts, and don't want shops using 3rd party parts. What it also means is that they will not pay for _new_ OEM parts. All insurance companies will use "recycled" parts where possible. A friend of mine did a "Chester job" to his M3 a couple of years back, requiring a whole new right side, some suspension bits, and a differential. Wherever possible, Nationwide paid for used parts, including the diff. He could have new, but he would have had to pay a few grand out of pocket to cover the cost difference. I know much negotiating went on between him, the shop, and the insurance company, and he wound up with mostly new parts, but that was due mostly to the shop owner. BTW, Chester, his car drives like new, and that was after over $23,000 of work. No strange chassis behavior, no weird noises, nothing. But it did take over 3 months to fix... I don't think they are nationally competitive in BS any more against S2000's and Boxsters, but possibly locally they would be OK. It would do fine in BSP with a few mods, and looks like a great SM car (an E36 M3 won the nationals in 2002 ('95) and 2001 ('96)). For a local PAX class, the SM PAX I think is better than the SM PAX, even though you can do more. I am modifying my car to BSP rules, but I run SM locally since there is more competition. We have had up to 18 cars in SM locally in So. Calif. An E36 M3 is not legal for STS or STX, so no street touring for us. The Tunnells keep showing how competitive they are in BSP. I think the best place for a 95 M3 is in SM with a supercharger. God I wish I had the money to throw at this. Talk about a fun autocross car! -matt On Thursday 19 September 2002 10:02 pm, Chris Teague wrote: > It is BS, BSP, and SM. > > I don't think they are nationally competitive in BS any more > against S2000's and Boxsters, but possibly locally they would > be OK. > > It would do fine in BSP with a few mods, and looks like > a great SM car (an E36 M3 won the nationals in 2002 ('95) and > 2001 ('96)). #10. Sound System troubles - from Juan Bruce

Date: Fri, 20 Sep 2002 00:52:08 -0700 From: "Juan Bruce" <jbrucebmw@hotmail.com> Subject: Sound System troubles I finally got around to upgrading my 95 M3 to the Harmon Kardon system that was optional on later years. I swapped components piece by piece to see the difference each component makes and to assure everything is working. I swapped the head unit, amp and rear speakers and it sounded great. I swapped the right kick panel speaker and it still functioned fine. Then I swapped the left kick panel speaker and the system produced no sound at all. The head unit lit up and changed stations but the system produced absolutely no sound. WTF!?! What could I have done to cause this? I tired swapping back the kick panel speakers to no avail. It still produces no sound! If anyone has any ideas let me know.
