The big M stamp on the arm... Axles and hub flanges are different, otherwise it is the same casting. My guess is that this combination will fail the 93 dB limit in almost any weather combination. I have heard that some stock exhaust cars can fail with just the JC kit. If you are close, then short shifting (into 4th) can get you to squeak under the limit. Another CHEAP option (which I use) is to have 2 exhaust deflectors (exhaust tubing with 45 deg. bends) mounted with hose clamps on the end of my exhaust. You can pivot them up/down/away from sound control! Shouldn't cost more that a few bucks, and is easily removed (or added) at the track. Dan

Just one (well, two) data point: Neither the '98 M3, nor the '93 325is have ever been tagged for violating sound at Laguna. Both are outfitted with JC intakes and stock exhaust (the 325is has - well, had - a '95 M3 exhaust). And of course I tip-toe around Laguna :-) I've never had to short-shift out of Turn 5. Next month's race may be different, since the 325is now has a Rogue exhaust. But then, the race group gets 103 dB. >Another CHEAP option (which I use) is to have 2 exhaust deflectors (exhaust >tubing with 45 deg. bends) mounted with hose clamps on the end of my >exhaust. I've seen more than my fair share of homemade deflectors as track debris :-) Cheers, Jim Bassett
