#2. FS: H&R/Bilstein suspension for 3.2L M3 - from Calvin Hare

Date: Tue, 24 Sep 2002 21:13:42 -0400 From: "Calvin Hare" <cmhm3@cfl.rr.com> Subject: FS: H&R/Bilstein suspension for 3.2L M3 Hello All, Am selling my H&R/Bilstein suspension off my '96 M3. Suspension = consists of H&R 29910 Sport Springs, Bilstein Sport shocks/struts and = 5mm (thicker) rear spring pads. Suspension has been on the car for = approximately 20k miles and is in like new condition. Has never been = exposed to winter weather as the car has never left Florida. Am = preparing to sell the car and. . . as has been discussed ad nauseum, = modified cars appeal to a limited population at best so I have = re-installed the stock suspension. This setup will fit any 3.2L M3 from '96 to '99. Not sure about any = other E36 cars although I know the springs won't work on the '95 M3's = due to different sized upper spring perches I believe. With the thicker = spring pads installed this suspension lowers the car approximately 0.75" = all around. Without the thicker pads the rear was about 0.25" lower and = was a little too low for my taste. If interested, I have pics I can = send of my car with the suspension installed. Price is $450 + shipping costs from Orlando, FL. Will be listing on = e-Bay in a few days but wanted to see if anyone on this list was = interested first. If interested, please E-mail me privately at = cmhm3@cfl.rr.com. Regards, Calvin Hare Orlando, FL '96 M3 Cosmos Black/Modena

If anyone is keeping score, I am also interested in non-CO adjustable camber plates. Why not coilover? I'm satisfied with what I've got now, but want to dial in some extra camber for autox's, to reduce the excessive wear I now see on the outside edges of the competition tires, and dial it back out for mostly street driving, to avoid excessive wear on the inside of the street tires. Might they will be ready by next spring? ;) Until next time... Todd 1998 BMW M3 coupe, Dinan Stage II BMW CCA member, Boston Chapter ---

I have checked the code through the ignitionkey/ acelerator method, and it flashed 1226 which indicates #2 knock sensor which is for cylinders 4-6. Now what? Does anyone have any insight into this? The one with 2 buttons instead of our US single button part." I believe that it is p/n: 61 31 1 387 054. According to ETK, it is a 2 button fog lamp switch that controls the front fog lamps as well as the rear fog lamp. HTH, Scott Riley

Todd, Not to dampen your enthusiasm, but you are kidding yourself if you think you will be adjusting camber before and after each autoX. Other than being a PITA (need to have wheel in the air, etc), changing camber directly effects your toe. Unless you are prepared to align your car after every camber tweak (some people are and have $1K portable alignment jigs to prove it) whatever tire life you gain from more negative camber will be offset by the wild toe settings. Ignore the advertising claims. Camber plates are primarily used to set the camber once to your specs. Then you pay someone to align the car and forget it. alex f

I had this exact same setup and purchased front coilover rear height adjustable perch + springs and front camber plates for a very good price. I would say that if you are not planning on slamming your car I would not get the 6" springs but the 7" instead. They seem to allow plenty of height adjustment. In fact I would think you could even go 8" up front. Cheers, Eric
