#1. Clutch replacement... - from Juan Rico
Top
Date: Fri, 4 Oct 2002 10:27:01 -0700 From: Juan Rico <juan_rico@captionsinc.com> Subject: Clutch replacement... Hey folks, Where's the best place to purchase a new stock clutch price wise? I also want to buy all the associated components that I need to replace for a complete clutch redo, without leaving anything out, so any info here is appreciated. I've seen Sachs clutch kits in the BMP catalog for around $300 (?) Do these kits include everything and are these the same stock clutches the dealer sells? If it'll save me some headaches I'll just go to the dealer and pay the premium... Juan.

Is this >true? Not sure about the "wear rotors more than the pads", but the rotors DO wear. If you have, or know someone who has, a micrometer you can measure them yourself. Or just check to see if there's a "noticeable" lip at the edge of the rotors - that'll give you an indication that they're getting thin. Since the M3 rotors are vented, not solid, I would think it's more critical to replace them as they get thin. Jim Bassett

Margaret My suggestion to you is to keep looking. Our local DFW area Discount Tire is charging $150/per mounted. I believe lifetime balancing and tax are extra. I don't know if they will ship out of state. Toyos - great tires. Horrible distributors. alex f

In your archive search, did you come across Bob Stommel's "Oil Rules" post? If not, I'll have to dig it out at home (the infamous "hamster p*ss" description :-)). >The Mobil 1 website recommends a few different grades for our cars: 10w30, >0w40, 15w50, 0w30 and 5w30. Unfortunately, the inquiry form on the >website didn't allow for a long enough question in which I could inquire >if their 10w40 for motorcycles was okay for cars, but I'd assume not >(since it's specifically labelled for motorcycles). Just an FYI, I ran (and still run) Red Line 10W40 in the M3 (not quite following Bob's rules - I'm a slow learner :-)). Mainly because of this from Red Line's site: Best choice for high-performance engines that see street as well as frequent racetrack duty. I do run Mobil1 15W50 in the race car. My 2 cents, Jim Bassett

However, that went away when the brake was applied. <<< It could be as simple as your brake pads rattling in the calipers? Try applying some sticky brake-quiet stuff between the pad backs and the caliper. Had a similar problem on the rear of my car and this fixed it.
