Date: Sat, 5 Oct 2002 17:49:49 -0500 From: "Alain van der Heide" <ajvdh1@attbi.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] damn tire carcasses I just (like 1 1/2 hours ago) finished the 1400 mile drive from Akron, Ohio to Niwot,Colorado (I bought Rich Dorffer's non-M BMW), and I had one of those big motorhomes with duallys in the rear, towing a car, lose the outside left rear tire about 200 yards in front of me. No harm, no foul (the motorhome guy kept it together, and I dodged all the debris), but after 20+ hours of driving in two days it was a little more excitement than I really wanted. - Alain ----- Original Message ----- From: "russell" <driver8m3@yahoo.com> To: "E36M3" <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Thursday, October 03, 2002 7:50 PM Subject: [E36M3] damn tire carcasses > Date: Thu, 3 Oct 2002 17:40:40 -0700 (PDT) > From: russell <driver8m3@yahoo.com> > Subject: damn tire carcasses > > mel, i feel your pain. 3 months ago, i hit a raccoon, breaking the front > bumper, both fogs, and the under panels. total damage....$1100. > > 2 days ago, i hit a large piece of tire. both fogs gone, mesh piece gone, > fan smashed, air conditioner condenser smashed (but working), bumper > marred pretty well, bumper trim broken. estimate...$2000. > > as you said, it could be worse. > > russell > dakar (with black "stripes" in front) 99 > > > > > > > -------------------- 10 -------------------- > > Date: Thu, 3 Oct 2002 18:54:25 -0500 > > From: "Mel Silva" <melsilva@mindspring.com> > > Subject: Another reason why driving in Texas SUCKS! > > > > Okay, I've calmed down a little, but I was violently angry not 40 > > minutes > > ago. #2. RE: [E36M3] PF 97s vs. Porterfield R4s - from twisty M3

It does come off, but it takes a bit of hard work. The dust and lack of retaining clips are my only complaint about the PF97s. Overall, they certainly do seem to work better than the R4 pads and, although I'm getting a bit better with my braking, I've noticed much more life out of these. The ones I have on currently look like they'll get at least double the life that my R4s did. Then again, I don't get to drive at the schools quite as much as I used to either, so that my explain part of it. Anyone else care to comment on track mileage of the R4 vs PF97? My R4 experience leads me to believe that they have a very short life span in comparison. And yes, the PF97s make a great fireworks show. I wasn't aware of that until I had to get on the brakes somewhat hard after just putting them on and I saw a glowing red chunk fly by my window. Cool! ;) Jonathan L. >From: "Sean W. #3. squeaking sound - from Dan McDaniel

Date: Sat, 5 Oct 2002 20:16:55 -0400 From: Dan McDaniel <dbm7w@cavtel.net> Subject: squeaking sound My '95 M3 with 107,000 miles has started making a squeaking sound which seems to be coming from front left somewhere. - Starts after the car as been driven 4-5 miles - Can be heard from barely moving up to 40mph or so - Light pressure on the brake pedal stops it - Turning slightly left makes it louder - Turning slightly right makes is nearly go away Is this a wheel bearing going bad? Any ideas on what might be causing this would be appreciated. -- Dan

There was only one way to install it on my '95 -- concave part out, as those needed to slot into a convex part on the carrier. Kinda simplifies install, hunh? -p

One problem I am having is that the speedometer and fuel gauge are not working. No wires were cut. As far as I can discern, all the plugs that were disconnected have been reconnected. Any ideas on where to start? Thanks. Mike #??? ITS/KP __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Faith Hill - Exclusive Performances, Videos & More http://faith.yahoo.com

#6. dreaded baked-on crust does exist from R4 pads - from John Bergstrom

Date: Sat, 5 Oct 2002 22:51:53 -0700 (PDT) From: John Bergstrom <john0990@yahoo.com> Subject: dreaded baked-on crust does exist from R4 pads Just another data point. I was using the Porterfield R4 pads, and DID experience the dreaded baked-on crust that was nearly impossible to remove. Took about 3 hours to clean my wheels using a scotchpad, a 1/4 bottle of Simple Green, and a whole lot of soap, water, and elbow grease. Still could only get about 98% of the stuff off. Granted, I was using these as a dual street/track pad, so I wasn't cleaning the residue off on a daily basis . . . John '95 M3 __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
