Date: Tue, 8 Oct 2002 14:11:29 -0700 From: Philip <estorilphil@highstream.net> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Pork Chops? Pork chops are those triangular plastic pieces attached to the bottom of the front bumper just ahead of each of the front wheels. They function to direct airflow away from the front wheel. They also help anchor the stock center undertray piece. I don't think it's "desirable" to remove them. It's just that I've got the JTD made aluminum tray that essentially replaces the center undertray piece along with the two "porkchop" pieces so I didn't need 'em any more. It may seem "desirable" to remove them because they tend to touch parking parriers (among other things) and subsequently drag on it ultimately putting stress on the entire undertray. Causing the whole undertray assembly to detach from the car prematurely. And when this happens, they're frequently replaced with this aluminum undertray made by JTD (aftermarket company). Date: Tue, 8 Oct 2002 17:14:14 EDT From: Nsxlr8@aol.com Subject: Noise My Wife's '98 sedan has a "whirring" sound coming from the engine bay. The noise is consistantly there and sounds like it may be the AC compressor, alternator or some other component. Just wondering if there are any common problems and if the CPO warranty would cover these components. Also, the body side molding between the front wheel and front door slides back and forth. It wont fall off, but moves when I wash it. Any suggestions? Thanks. Jeff Bjerke '98 M "three quarters"

Cal. BMW of Riverside. Not sure if they ship, as I have a friend picking up a case for me, but the price is good compared to what I've found elsewhere. $6.85 per quart! Closest thing I found online was just under $8 per, and would cost an addt'l $12 for s/h. Unfortunately, nothing more local to me (Ventura county) seemed to have anything other than Redline additives. The local NAPA and Car Quest (thanks for the suggestions, Jim) claimed they couldn't even special order the motor oil... I think they were just lazy. <shrug> Jonathan L. >From: "twisty M3" <twistym3@hotmail.com> > >At 12:30 PM 10/7/02, twisty M3 talked about: >>Anyone have a good online source for discounted Redline products? Florida to Akron, Ohio thing (1,250 miles) in less than 24 hours. The worst part was that it was the Independence Day long weekend and we left Palm Beach on Sunday. The drive through Florida, Georgia and South Carolina (until we were north of Columbia) sucked because the holiday traffic was horrible. Something like 10 hours in mostly stop-and-go traffic causing us (my wife and I) to miss our dinner date we have planned in Charleston. It would have been less than 20 hours if the traffic hadn't been so bad on the first leg of the trip. Otherwise, I can drive pretty long trips by myself straight through. I don't recommend it though and it would be wise to stop overnight once along the way. I figured Paul was going to AA as well. Later, Rich

Since she's no longer the current ball and chain, we actually enjoy each other alot more! Normally Id fly, but Ive really become a wuss about that. So, Ive just been investigating doing the drive thing. I figure that, these days, my two favorite things are her, and the M. Why not combine them?! On balance I don't think it is. However they do tend to get scraped, and when that happens the attachment points to the plastic wheel arch liners can also get damaged. Neil 96 M3

In fact, I was one of four people who took the first flight out of Cleveland the Thursday they opened the airports the very same week as the attacks. I also spent four months earlier this year totally revamping the security at the Charlotte airport. Flying is safe, and is a much more reasonable option than driving to Florida right now.
