Recently when I turn my steering wheel to the left the tire rubs the wheel liner. I need to take a look at the other side when I get out of work and see what it looks like but I don't think there is one on that side either. I bought the car used so I wonder if the previous owner broke off the other side at some point. Hmmmm? I find that a new belt last about 10k miles before start to whine. I don't believe the CPO warranty will covers them. Fortunately it's a 15 min job to replace them. My front molding also slides back and forth, just never cared enough to find out a fix for it. Joe. '98 M3/4 ---------------- My Wife's '98 sedan has a "whirring" sound coming from the engine bay. The noise is consistantly there and sounds like it may be the AC compressor, alternator or some other component. Just wondering if there are any common problems and if the CPO warranty would cover these components. Also, the body side molding between the front wheel and front door slides back and forth. It was fun up until the Mississippi River where my average speed went from 110mph to about 90mph in about 25 miles. I was cruising at about 100-160mph through the desert when there was no traffic and slowed to about 5-10mph over current traffic speeds when there was traffic. In the midwest, I was pretty much following the speed limit since there was no safe stretch of road to go fast. I've driven NJ to FL about 12 yrs ago and there was a ton of speed traps in GA and FL. It took about 19hrs to get there but 16hrs on the way back. We were following an Eclipse with NY tags and I guess they saw our NJ tags so we both cruised at about 100-120 most of the way up at night with very little traffic. Red Bull drinks and beef jerky kept me awake on the last drive. Flying now is probably safer than any period of time within the last 10 yrs. There is more security and scrutiny with the airline industry with respect to the pilots, passengers and ground crew. -Bobby

While you're at it, drive straight through! :) Good strategies for driving long distances: Avoid drinking much water, but you can eat a fair amount. Try to space it so you start drinking less than 2 hours before your next fuel stop.. that way you can pee while you fill up your car. Stops take a TON of time and kill your average speed. Furthest I've ever driven is 950 miles, and that was all in one day.. I wouldn't consider breaking anything under 1000 miles into 2 days, it's a waste of time and money (unless you're with a family or something). 1500 miles might be pushing it, but it would be fun. Driving alone certainly is boring. I've never had problems with long distances before, but 3 weeks ago I did 850 miles solo (12 hours), and GOD it was boring. Even with my empeg with 12 days' worth of music! :) The only thing a passenger does is keep you entertained, or possibly drive for you if you get tired.. but if you're on this list you probably don't exactly split driving duties on trips.. They won't keep you "safe" or anything. If you get tired, stop. A passenger won't keep you from getting tired. If you do stop, stop wherever you want to. Plan it out. Or not. maybe just drive until you're tired. stop somewhere cheap to keep costs down (ie, not a big city). Or stop somewhere you've always wanted to visit. For a 10:1 compression ratio, you want a gauge reading at least as good as 10 times atmospheric pressure. A higher number is usually better unless carbon buildup is so great that the cylinder volume is reduced. BTW: cool runner rules!! I just installed cross drilled rotors, PF97 pads, x-brace, SSR competitions and Yoko A032R's. I can't wait to try it out. I also have H&R springs with SA Koni's. Just wondering, I had staggered tires before and switched to one size all around, how does this affect the handling of the car? My father tells me that this is going to make the car really twitchy. He also said that it won't go around the corners as fast. I just want to assure myself that I made the right decision with regard to the tires. I would love to get some feedback to the set up that I have.
