#1. [E36M3] How to remove old wax from black side trim?? - from Dorffer, Rich

Mel says > > I have heard that "Magic Rub" brand erasers work, but for me the best answer > was to remove the trim, and strip the trim of all wax and apply "black > magic". Made the trim look brand new (again). Stripped the wax with what? I have tried peanut butter and "Magic Rub" erasers. Neither worked that great in my opinion but I have yet to find something better. On my '95 M3, I sold the pebbled textured trim for the bumpers and bought the smooth, pre 04/05 trim pieces which are smooth instead of textured. I now avoid getting wax on any rubber/plastic pieces (although I understand this doesn't help you since someone else waxed the car). Best regards, Rich 95 M3 90 325is

With swapped hats, you'll probably be at 2.5-3.5 degrees per side. Depending on the springs you're running. If the sides are close to the same, you're good to go there. If not, you can add negative to the side with less by using shims or washers on the lower strut housing bolts. Depends on how far off they are and how anal you are. Set the front toe to zero or very close to it. With zero toe, it'll wander a little on the freeway. Tends to trammeline (sp?). You can add just a touch of toe-in. But, any toe-in will cause more inside edge tire wear. Set your rear camber to 1 degree less than your front. I do mine with a full tank of gas and everything in the trunk that will be in the trunk when I track the car. Your rear toe-in should be between .05 and .15 degree per side. Too little will cause power on oversteer and instability at high speed. Too much and the car will slide through corners and won't rotate as well. I had mine set at .07 and was not unhappy. I haven't yettried any other settings for comparison. Good luck - Jay

#8. Odometer lights out after IC removal - from shane.a.kleinpeter@accenture.com
Top
Date: Fri, 11 Oct 2002 13:36:04 -0400 From: shane.a.kleinpeter@accenture.com Subject: Odometer lights out after IC removal Hi all, I pulled out the instrument cluster last Sunday night in order to check to see which light bulbs were out (one up in the tach area). The Bentley manual said I had to take the steering wheel off, but I found that once the connectors were disconnected, I was able to slide it out towards the radio with ease. The only strange thing about removing the cluster was that when I went to disconnect the three harnesses on the back (one blue, one white, and a smaller black one) a beeping noise started from behind the dash. The keys were not in the ignition at the time. Anyway, I ignored it, and pulled the harnesses anyway and the noise stopped. I installed it in the exact opposite order and went to bed. This morning, when I started the car for the first time since doing this (I changed nothing, just removed and reinstalled) the odometer and trip meter will not light up. The green/red/yellow lights that come on at startup still do so, just cannot see the mileage. All other gauges work fine and light up when the lights are turned on. My questions are: Has anybody experienced this before? How do I fix it? Have I screwed something up? In removing and reinstalling the cluster on the race car multiple times I have never experienced anything like this, which is the most surprising part of the whole thing. Thanks. Shane K. Hmm, I've had the IC out of the M3 several times as well, and not experienced a problem at all. You didn't remove, or adjust, any bulbs? Maybe mere coincidence that the bulb(s) to illuminate the odo & trip meter burned out (I had this happen after removing the IC in the race car to get rid of the SRS light - put it back in and the bulb behind the gas gauge was out, damn). >In removing and reinstalling the cluster on the race car multiple times I >have never experienced anything like this, which is the most surprising >part of the whole thing. I'm with you on the surprised part <g>, having BTDT several time on both cars. Hope that helps (but probably not), Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 1993 325is #44 KP
