I have had pretty good luck with the semi-annual tire tests in the German automotive magazines which try to be more objective. The current issue of mot magazine (22/2002), for example, rates some of the current snow tires on snow (40% weighting), wet and dry (40 and 10%) pavement - but curiously, not ice - and provides such tasty morsels as the mean traction in Newtons they measured on snow. They don't, however, publish quite all the data to make their report reproducible and, hence, scientific. For those who are interested, their top-rated snow tire (highly recommended) in the 205/55 R 16 H size was the Bridgestone Blizzak LM 22, followed by (all recommended) the Goodyear Eagle Ultragrip GW 3, Nokian WR, Continental WinterContact TS 790, Toyo Snowprox S 950, and the Pirelli Winter 210 Snowsport (the tire I bought last year). You can find the report on the web at: http://www.auto.t-online.de/AU/DE/de/homepage.jhtml?navi_param=test_technik& news_newsart=autotests&area_navigation=weitere_tests&report=bericht&repId=%2 FAU%2FDE%2Fde%2Fcontentrepositories%2FDE_de_Test_Technik_otherTestReportRepo sitoryXML%2FXML%2FTestTechnik511.xml With luck, that link pasted o.k. -John '96 318is ************************************************************* List Commands UNSUBSCRIBE - (in subject line) unsubscribes you from the mailing list. The problem just doesn't happen overnight - mine developed over a period of well over a year (close to two years, come to think of it.) It seems innocent enough until it gets really bad and you become very reluctant to use 5th gear. << Oh Great! I have 9 more mos. on my new car warranty, and I know that, in its current state, no dealer is going to tell me I need a new transmission, or authorize a warranty replacement of my transmission. If Im lucky, it'll go before next July and I can get a warranty replacment. If not, Im basically screwed. Or, you may be wrong, and it never becomes an issue. For, after a year, I think, its still a non issue. Ill just keep an eye on it, and report back if it gets worse. Thanks for the heads up...I think! Had similar symtoms with my '96 at 48k miles and my dealer gave me a new tranny, just 2k before end of warranty. You may have to push them a bit to get a thorough diagnosis. . . they tried to tell me at first that it was the rubber boot binding or something like that, but when they really looked at it though, they found the problem was coming from inside the transmission and instead of pulling it apart to look further they just swapped it. After all, whadda you got to lose. . . at least you'll have documentation of the problem on your service record. Not now, as Ill want it to be at its potential worst before I do it, but sometime before next july when the warranty expires. Naturally, I also have a Stygar short shift kit installed. So Im sure the dealer's going to say, 'its not the tranny...its the short shift kit that caused this to happen....Not Covered!' My wife went to pick up spark plugs for the M3. The guy asks what vehicle, and she say 1997 BMW M3, here's the part number. He says, great, you have the part number, let me look up how many you need. Wife says, 6!, and he says, hold on, I'll look it up in the computer. Them things is pricey too! $16 per. Yikes. Jason __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Turn them about 1/2 to 1 full turn and they rock! Go with an adjustable shock/strut and the choice is yours to make, not the manufacturer!
