Installation was straight forward, no re-programming of the EWS needed also, all keys remain the same. Usually, when the car is new, you'll get 3-4 keys, leaving about 6-7 available for replacements. Once you need to order the 11th key, a whole new EWS system has to be ordered and installed at the same time ($$$$$$$$$$). So, assuming the car you're buying is under the 10 key limit for its EWS system, then all you'll need is proof of ownership of the vehicle and any BMW dealer can order any of the keys you need (master key, spare key, valet key, etc.). When the key arrives, it will be ready to use; no programming should be required. Cost for a master key is about $50. The other keys are cheaper. If you want, the EWS system can also be programmed to invalidate the old keys that you do not have. That eliminates the possibility of somebody with possession of those keys to be able to start the car. Otherwise, you have to remove the 2 side panel pieces that go on the C-pillars (they just pull out but be careful because the wire for the light will still be attached). You also have to remove the trim panel that runs behind the seats at the top edge. I don't remember if you have to remove the side panels in the back but I think that it makes it easier. That should be it if I remember correctly. -Wayne P.S. You will also need 4 new plastic rivets (51 46 8 110 359) as those will get absolutely destroyed. #7. Thanks, and a General Audio Question - from shane.a.kleinpeter@accenture.com

Date: Mon, 28 Oct 2002 15:18:34 -0500 From: shane.a.kleinpeter@accenture.com Subject: Thanks, and a General Audio Question First, a word of thanks to list member Rich Dorffer. I was at the Buckeye school/club race this weekend at Mid Ohio. During Friday practice, the fuel pump on my race car died. Frantic searching found none, so I called Rich and asked him to check around Cleveland for one. Rich found one, bought it, and delivered it to me at the track early in the morning on Saturday. I was able to get to the morning warm up for some much needed track time since I missed all my track time on Friday (never been to Mid Ohio before). Anyway, I took 3rd in class (out of 7) Saturday and 2nd Sunday thanks to Rich. Also, since we're on the topic of audio...I have a '96 M3 that I bought used. The car had a couple of amps in the trunk when I bought it, along with a sub. I know nothing about stereo equipment, so I think it sounds pretty good. It appears as if the previous owner kept the stock (HK) system, but put in two amps and bypassed the factory amp. The one amp (that appears to run the factory speakers) is a Kenwood, and is working properly. The second (a Rockford Fosgate) runs the sub. Until recently, that is, because it is no longer functioning. My question is, how do I go about determining what is busted? I figure there is just as much of a chance that the sub is not working as there is that the amp is not working. But again, I am not a big stereo guy so I have never had to diagnose audio issues. Any suggestions will be appreciated, even though I can't work on the car until Friday (I'm currently freezing in Milwaukee). Thanks. Shane K. Also, if you go to the dealer and get some plastic rivets (either the ones with the push-pin or the ones with the phillips-head plastic screw), you can use these to replace the one-time use rivets, in case you need to get the rear deck out again. I used the push-pin type... I had to trim them a bit, but they work fine. scott --- Jonathan Evans <jonathanevans@hotmail.com> wrote: > Date: Mon, 28 Oct 2002 14:35:18 -0500 > From: "Jonathan Evans" <jonathanevans@hotmail.com> > Subject: rear deck removal > > > Searched and couldn't find any help on removing the > entire rear interior = > deck of an m3 coupe.
