I'd be interested in substituting a CD slot-loading BMW head unit from a later model instead, if that's compatible with the other HK components. (I do not want to put in an aftermarket unit, rewire the car, or get the trunk mounted CD changer.) Any of you audio guys know what my options are, and/or have a used CD head unit for sale? Two areas were clearly rubbing (after installation of stock 245/40R17 S03 on the stock 8.5" rear wheels): 1) shock dust boot on inside of rear wheel 2) outer fender lip, but just slightly Todd and I first installed a set of washers between the shock and the control arm to push the shock (and therefore the dust boot) inboard. This solved number 1. Thanks for the tip Lowell on the other washer between the shock and the bolt - the Konis came with that one originally. Now it looks like: [control arm]- (washer/spacer) - [shock] - (washer)- [bolt] For number 2, we first used a smaller baseball bat, but that seemed to be scraping off the paint a bit, although my technique probably wasn't very good. After trying that for a bit, we moved on to Paul's suggestion of the claw side of a hammer. We lightly pried the fender lip out, by levering off of the tire, after wrapping the hammer in a towel. It wasn't extremely uniform, but you could bend out the exact area you wanted and it didn't touch the paint. Some extreme cornering (with a full tank of gas) doesn't appear to show anymore rubbing. Thanks! '98 M3 (Dinan suspension, FAT S03s, Conforti intake+soft, X-brace, Euro rotors+R4S....)

I think it's out of a Z3, but not sure. Seems to me I've seen reference to a CD43. Again, not sure. I've seen many posts on roadfly.com and/or bimmerforums.com. If you post your question in one of these forums, I'm sure you'll get your answer. BTW, I go by LUNI2NZ in all the other forums. Jay

#6. Slight addendum to yesterday's story.... - from Wayne Miller
Top
Date: Wed, 30 Oct 2002 09:20:57 -0500 From: "Wayne Miller" <m3@waynemiller.com> Subject: Slight addendum to yesterday's story.... Now I am not one of those people that likes to publicize "kill" stories but I couldn't resist this time. If those that read yesterday's story were paying attention, you'll remember that the main reason that I decided to buy another car was due to the MINI only matching a Mitsubishi Eclipse in acceleration. Well guess what? This morning, on my 2nd morning having an E46M3, that same Eclipse lines up right behind me at the same light :-) It's too bad that there was another car next to me. I go at a normal pace up to the highway ramp and then slowly start to accelerate at part throttle onto the highway. As soon as there is room, the Eclipse pulls into the next lane and guns it - the moment I was waiting for. I just floored it and left him in the dust. Then I slow down and wait for him to catch up and I did it again. Childish? Sure but who cares. Up ahead, there was some regular traffic so I just settled in. Eventually, he pulls up next to me and gives me a big thumbs up and I waved. I am sure that he has no idea that it was all his fault. E36M3 content - So far, I like the steering on the E36M3's much better than E46M3's but it is still early. -Wayne

Originally I was going to trade the indash CD that came with my M Roadster for the tape/weather/radio (remote CD changer) like what came in my 98 M3. It does seem that some of these change easily (if you remember your radio code). In my case I decided to keep my indash CD although I do like the weather band option. Childish? Sure but who cares. Yes, very childish and the people involved in the accident that you cause will care quite a bit! If you want to race your hot car, take it to the track. BTW, DTMPower.net is the place to share your "kill" stories with the other kids. This is a good list, fairly absent of these childish kill stories. I hope we can keep it that way. I'm sorry, but I have had friends killed by people like you that were racing on the street. I'm a little sensitive about it. Dave Kelley 98 M3/4 94 325i

Instead, there is a new RSM system similar to the ultralight setup on our web page - available with both 7" and 5" clutches, not readily available yet and not the best options for this type of system at this point IMO. We have started selling custom clutches that will fill the gap. Our Stage I is a good road-race clutch, 40% greater clamping due to friction material and pressure plate modifications with no huge increase in pedal effort.
