Should I go 16 or 17 inch? I have Stock brakes. Is the Blizzac M-22 the way to go? Now, once I put these on for the season, do I store the other tire/wheels in a horizontal manner on top of each other? What is the preferred way? thanks Paul Smith 98 M3/4

I also have the "standard" bolt ons for stiffening; x-brace, strut bar, stress bar and UUC adjustable sways front an rear. Since installing I have only run around town and taken a few trips. The car is setup for a possible future in the BMWCCA Club Racing in the stock class, but hasn't seen any track time since the suspension upgrade (another car has been serving track duty very well). I am happy with the upgrade, but I would suspect some would find the ride too stiff. I live in the Northeast where frost heaves and pot holes are common, the ride through them seems to be quite a bit rougher now, than before the suspension upgrade. I am also running the Kumho 712s, and they don't seem to provide much dampening either. I should be driving a 2500 mile round trip in the next month, and may have more comments then. Lew, The brake light & clutch switch (if you have cruise control) is on a bent metal bracket. The bracket turns 90 degrees toward the front of the car, and is held in place by a bolt running through the bracket and some part of the dash understructure. IIRC, you need to put a 10 mm socket on both ends of the screw. Pull the knee bolster and get some light up there, and you can find the screw. Be careful reinstalling the bracket (look closely before pulling it out) because it is extremely sensitive to proper position. The first time I replaced my brake light switch, I reinstalled it 3 times before the cruise would work. The correct dimension is whatever is stamped into the "hat" of the rotor, and for OEM that's usually 26.4mm. At 26.6, you wanna replace 'em RSN. I've been using the Brembo rotors that Steve D'G at ultimategarage.com sells. - Alain ----- Original Message ----- From: <Mdriver13@aol.com> To: "E36M3" <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Saturday, November 02, 2002 9:44 PM Subject: [E36M3] brake rotor wear > Date: Sat, 2 Nov 2002 22:36:58 EST > From: Mdriver13@aol.com > Subject: brake rotor wear > > > Group, > > Does anyone know what the minimum front rotor thickness is? #6. Wheel bearing going out? - from eevans@planetc.com
Top
Date: Sun, 03 Nov 2002 22:04:24 -0500 From: eevans@planetc.com Subject: Wheel bearing going out? I'm starting to notice that when the car is cold, as in the first 5 miles or so, when I brake fairly hard I feel this gritty feeling through the steering. My brother swears my front wheel bearing is going out. I've never had a bearing go out so this is a new feeling for me. I thought at first that the calipers might be sticking and rubbing on my rotors, but it does get better when the wheels have had enough time to become warmed up. Then when if I have to really get on the brakes the feeling comes back via the steering. I know it's a nebulous description, but I don't know how to articulate it any other way. What are the symptoms of a bearing going out and how do you check for sure? BTW, my ABS light just came on too, could this be related to the bearing? This is on a '95 M3 w/ 72K miles. TIA Evan

The entire point of a snow tire is to get the most intensity to the contact patch as possible to maximize traction. The way you do that is to run the tallest, narrowest tire possible, in this case, a 205-55-16 snow tire. I always wonder why people get a set of 17" wheels/snow tires and mount up 235-40-17 snow tires. It's like mounting up a set of steamrollers and hoping they work... I store my summer wheels/tires stacked on one another with cardboard inbetween them in my basement... -josh --- Paul Smith <pauls@ontario.com> wrote: > Date: Sun, 3 Nov 2002 18:49:50 -0500 > From: Paul Smith <pauls@ontario.com> > Subject: Winter tires and storage of summer tires > > I am getting a set of winter tires and wheels for my > '98 M3/4. > Should I go 16 or 17 inch? After many sets of Yokohama A032's, I decided to try a set of RA-1's instead. Can anyone fill me in on the specifics of these puppies? I plan to run around 35-36psi hot (M3 LWT), "flip" them on the wheels to maximize life. I'm told that they need more of a warm-up than the Yok's ... What I did see was something that looks similar to an oil filter in dimensions. Thanks in advance. Ajay, 95 M3
