I got the Tire Rack package a couple of winters ago (16" ATP Type 5 M-Contour knockoffs, with LM-22s) and have been very happy with it. But I'm in Virginia, where we don't get a ton of snow, so I prefer a H-rated snow tire that's pretty good in both snow and dry to a Q-rated tire that's great in snow and awful in dry. If you're in the real snow belt, you probably want a Q-rated tire. > Now, once I put these on for the season, do I store the other tire/wheels in > a horizontal manner on top of each other? What is the preferred way? The rule of thumb I've heard is that mounted tires should be stored horizontally, to prevent flat-spotting. I've stored tires both ways, and neither has caused a problem. -- David Ripton dripton@ripton.net

"When you view your lights against a flat surface if you see a unfocused circle of light, don't waste your money as the lights will only make a brighter blur and blind oncoming traffic. If you see a sharp line angled up to the right, you will obtain substantial benefits from upgrading the lights." In other words, upgraded lights in US spec lights are a waste of money. My e-code standard wattage lights are better than my 100 watt US lights I replaced and annoy oncoming drivers much less. The city lights keep them confused though. #4. post-driving school brake fade - from Jon Phillips

Date: Mon, 04 Nov 2002 08:59:34 -0800 From: jon@maximumpc.com (Jon Phillips) Subject: post-driving school brake fade Just finished 2-day at Sears Point; ran in D group. My completely stock brakes held up fine with no fade throughout the weekend, even during the second day when I really began using them. No fade whatsoever. The brakes also felt absolutely normal on the 40 minute drive home from the track. However: It's now Monday morning, and while I still seem to have the same stopping power I've always had, my brake pedal is noticably softer: more travel before the brakes really begin to bite. I'm running super blue fluid, for what it's worth. Anyhow, what's the solution? Bleed again? Live with it until the next brake service or tech inspection? Or will my pedal travel return to normal? I assume this is a fluid issue, and not a pad issue? Advice? Thanks!

It theoretically could be either. I've had soft pedal from both boiled fluid and from glazed pads. I'd try re-bleeding and see if the pedal comes back. If that doesn't do it, try new pads. Interestingly, I ran the same event yesterday with the UUC big brakes and Carbotech pads. The braking force was excellent and the pedal felt great, with the exception of a low pedal height (still looking for advice on what that could be). I came in after the last session yesterday, popped my hood, and discovered that I had boiled my fluid (also super blue). That was new to me, as every time I've cooked fluid I've lost braking force. -peterg

Hi Ajay, I always ran the Bosch plugs in my '95 M3, but several people on this list think the NGK's are as good or better. Here are the part numbers, models, and the list prices for both plugs. Your local import parts store may have them for cheaper than you local BMW dealer. Is this not the signs of boiling? -p
