I don't find any fine print in the warranty excluding this. My car is in the shop today for a few small items before the warranty is up. Among the items is the squeaky seat belt adjuster (located in the B-pillar, right being my left ear). I would have had it taken care of long ago, but this car has given me little reason to take it in the stealer. Makes me wonder about all those crybaby letters in the ROUNDEL... David W. I have had these come loose (read break loose) after a few days of high speed track use more than once. Nothing a few big washers won't remedy. jeff 98 M3/4 with creative application of washers and angle brakets holding the cheap a** plastic together. -------------------- 10 -------------------- Date: Tue, 05 Nov 2002 13:55:39 -0800 From: jon@maximumpc.com (Jon Phillips) Subject: Let's diagnose an ugly sound... OK, It's been two days since the track school at Sears Point. Yesterday I posted a message about possible brake fade -- well, now it's gone (my pedal play is back to normal). But now I have a different problem: At full lock, with the steering wheel all the way to the left, I hear a scraping noise from the right/front of the car; I'll assume it's coming from the wheel. Wheel bearing? Something with calipers or the brake pad? For what it's worth, I tried stopping in a straight line at speed a few times, and the car brakes normally, i.e., it doesn't pull one way or the other.

I don't have my Bentley in front of me, so I don't know the name of the part, but it's not my underpanel; the underpanel looks fine (and it sure as hell better, because it's less than a year old). It's a plastic part that hugs the wheel well, and attaches to the underpanel. Fender liner? Wheel well liner? Is this just a simple matter of removing the tire and bolting it back in? Any tips would be most appreciated.

I loved my M3's, but doubt I will ever buy a new BMW EVER due to the dealer experiences I had with several different dealers while I owned 2 seperate E-36 M3s. My crybaby experience almost involved legal action to get my car fixed for a KNOWN problem with the diff bolts coming loose. Plus I was never refunded rental car bills, out of pocket expenses for hotel etc while stranded even though roadside supposedly covered all of that. Damn, this was years ago and it is pissing my off to think about it now. Well, according to the Service & Warranty Manual, "adjustments" are covered for 1 year/12,000 miles. Squeaks & rattles may fall under the vague term "adjustments", and that may be what the dealer is referring to. Jim Bassett

Date: Tue, 5 Nov 2002 18:32:34 -0500 From: Tobin Finley <tfinley@fdt.net> Subject: RE: Let's diagnose an ugly sound... It's the plastic inside fender liner. You probably broke a tab during your school, and it's sagging just enough to touch the tire during full lock. Quite a common problem, but alas, it's easily and fairly cheaply fixed. Dealers carry these things in stock. Tobin '95 M3 > >OK, It's been two days since the track school at Sears Point.
