Im using the opportunity to have a new Sachs Sport clutch installed, and I was wondering, would this also be a good time to have the Guibo replaced? I think Ive read that this unit frequently needs replacing, and with the tranny out, Id guess I can save most of the labor charges involved, and I think the part is only around $100 or so. The first 1K miles is for secondary seating of the rings, plus general wear-in of the rest of the engine. The initial seating is key, and that's what the 20-30 minutes at 2,000 rpm is for ... Or, you could see if your car hits redline in 5th gear... ;-) The easier way is to check where redline is. This raises a good question regarding the Shark Injector. It replaces the stock code with Sharked code, and retains the stock code on the injector, so you can switch back and forth anytime you want. Well, if the Shark Injector contains your 'original' stock code, and you want to Re-Shark it, will it merely overwrite the original stock code with the newer stock code, or does it somehow lock itself to the original stock code, and not allow the Shark code to be installed? I would see this as a means to prevent the Shark Injector from being used on multiple vehicles. Of course, if the stock code has the same identifier (same DME?) it would probably work without a problem. Date: Fri, 08 Nov 2002 12:17:30 -0500 From: "Ron Buchalski" <rbuchals@hotmail.com> Subject: Re: cold start miss It sounds like a problem with the cold operation system. Does the S50 have a cold start fuel injector, thermotime switch, and dedicated coolant temp sensor? On my E30, these components would inject additional fuel during cold operation, in order to provide a richer fuel mixture. So, a problem with the injector would limit the amount of fuel delivered, while a problem with the thermotime switch or coolant temp sensor would prematurely turn off the additional fuel, or not turn it on at all. Again, I don't know for a fact that these components are on the S50 engine... If you didn't take the rotot off I don't think taking off the wheel would affect the ABS/ASC. So the obvious is your intake. As you know the ASC mechanism is between the throttle and the intake. I would go and check to make sure you didn't disconnected or messed up anything there. My ASC lite came on this afternoon and I'm not sure why. I did 2 things that might have affected the ASC: 1. I took the front wheels off to measure the rotor thickness. 2. I installed the ECIS intake. Can anyone offer suggestions of how I might have caused the ASC lite to come on? Thanks __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? #8. Info about differentials? - from David Ngo

Date: Fri, 8 Nov 2002 12:48:42 -0800 (PST) From: David Ngo <rudngo@yahoo.com> Subject: Info about differentials? Hi, I suspect my differential in my often autocrossed '98 sedan may be on its way out. I'll be testing it this weekend to make sure, but in the meantime I've been trying to learn as much about differentials as possible in case I do have to replace it. Would anyone be able to recommend any books or websites where I could find out some more information about diffs and their effect on handling? I'm trying to decide whether to go with a rebuild of my diff with higher lockup or to go with a Quaife. The issue is that my car is my daily driver and I'm trying to achieve a balance between good autox performance and streetability. I've gotten great advice from Bob Tunnell and Wayne Miller, among others, but I still feel like I'm not knowledgeable enough to make a good (and expensive!) decision or even to have a good discussion about them. I am taking the front door panels off to replace the speakers. Does anyone know if the only precaution I need to taks is to remove the negative cable on the battery? Actually, shouldn't I do both neg. and pos.? Is there anything else I need to know? Thanks Paul Smith Was all stock for week one, getting personalized in week two:) Sharked in week three.

I've got to believe the shark program is always in the injector unit waiting to be downloaded! Right?! Just because, if you forget which program you installed last and if you reinstall the stock program over the stock, then you would be placing the stock program back into the injector and loss the upgrade program. Jim C. had to be smarter then this...if only for accidental mishaps like this. Jim C. please tell me I'm right. The shark program cannot be compromised in the injector, right? On the 2 door, you need to remove three torx screws--two are covered near the door handle and the other one is under the SRS airbag cover. After that, just pull. Use a butter knife covered with a paper towel and make sure you are careful when pulling the panels as the wires are connected.
