Date: Fri, 8 Nov 2002 19:05:21 -0600 From: "Robert Exconde" <99e36m3@exconde.com> Subject: HELP and Virus ALERT (I think) Any one notice on [E36M3] E36M3 #2752 message #2 ? I stupidly clicked it and it downloaded some program that eventually set itself up to send about 350 messages to people in my address book. If any of you receive it please disregarud it and delete it immediatly. I think (not sure) it is a virus spreading attachment. I managed to stop it before it sent past 150, but I am worried that I may be spreading more than that. I would like to warn every one of this email if it got sent to you I believe David Flanary on the list got hit and therefore it got sent to list. please beware and if you got a message from me --- Delete it! BTW it has emptied my sent folder and has emptied my trash on my Outlook. Yes, I have Corporate Norton Antivirus, but it must not have caught it. Robert 99M3

If the ambient temp has suddenly dropped where you live, it might be the gasoline related. Especially that gestapo oxygenated crap, with such a low reid vapor pressure. I think I still had "summer blend' in my tank, and got a rough cold-start when a light coat of frost settled on the windshield overnight. Also, it seems that it takes a gas station longer to empty/refill their Premium tanks (maybe fewer and fewer peoplle are using premium?). So you might still be purchasing a summer blend "Premium" since it may stay around a bit longer into the colder months. -Just a SWAG Bob 98 M3/4 ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cody_McCoy" <Cody_McCoy@sd.vrtx.com> To: "E36M3" <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Thursday, November 07, 2002 4:47 PM Subject: [E36M3] cold start miss > Date: Thu, 7 Nov 2002 14:30:13 -0800 > From: Cody_McCoy <Cody_McCoy@sd.vrtx.com> > Subject: cold start miss > > Group > > What effect does the idle control valve have on cold starts?, the > reason I ask is on cold starts my 95 rumbles like it's missing a cylinder or > two, car has new plugs > fresh oil, and runs ok when warm or warm outside, just stumbles on cold > overnight parking, intermittent coil? fuel pump?, lifter stuck closed or > open?, problem goes away after a couple hundred yards of driving but no > amount of idle warm up will get rid of it, this one has me stumped, a search > thru TIS symptoms and tech bulletins returns fuel injector cleaning and > testing and fuel pressure check, but I would think it would be failed and > not intermittent, radiator recently failed and gave the motor a small > dowsing but nothing a rag wouldn't clean, checked all obvious connectors for > liquid damage but it's been going on for a week now so liquids should be > dry....ughh, as always all help much appreciated. > > Cody McCoy > '95 ///M3/2 > mailto:Cody_McCoy@sd.vrtx.com >

#5. Long-term experience with RTA bushing options - from The Buch
Top
Date: Sat, 09 Nov 2002 07:06:09 -0800 From: The Buch <the_buch@telus.net> Subject: Long-term experience with RTA bushing options I am going to replace the rear trailing arm bushings this month, and already have the GC shims ready to go. However, as always, there are options. Anyone have longer term experience with the GC shims which proves up how robust they are, and whether the bushing is ultimately longer lasting? Of course, there are also some higher-end options like TCK's monoball components, but I wonder if these might be too harsh, possibly squeaky, etc., and probably (?) considerably pricier. Other long-term retrograde experience appreciated. Regards, Doug

#6. Good place to buy parts? And first track experience. - from Johnny Lee

Date: Sat, 09 Nov 2002 10:18:18 -0500 From: Johnny Lee <mclee@comcast.net> Subject: Good place to buy parts? And first track experience. I recall a while back someone mentioned that there is a good place to buy a kit that include, belts, hoses, water pumps, and thermostat for a good price. I did a search in the digest and couldn't find the appropriate email. By the way, is this a doable DIY job? Is there any special tools needed? I think I will do the brake pads soon also since my car just passed the 50K mark. Our local BMWCCA chapter offers something called DIY day where a sponsor dealership will let you use the lift in the shop for $35 and I plan to change pads, bleed brakes, perhaps do the cooling system work. You just have to bring your own tools. I finally had a chance to take the car to Summit Point (WV) yesterday for their FAATT event (lapping day.) What a great car. I was stupid enough to NOT turn off ASC for the first three sessions and kept losing traction at turn 9 and turn 10 exit (where power is needed to get on a straight way.) But the last session was absolute blast after turning the ASC off. Chalk it up to inexperience with the car and lack confidence in self. The stock brakes are great. Of course I don't drive as fast as most of the list members here but the car was definitely better than when I took my Prelude over there last year (which experienced brake fade and vibration, but the M3 also had ATE Superblue in it.) Thanks in advance for any advice and tips, Johnny 1998 M3/4 (51K and daily driver)

Noticeable improvement in tightness of rear end with used OEM RTABs. I do not believe they will add much to the longevity of stock RTABs, but definitely worth the $60. I got the E36 cooling kit from: www.bimmerparts.com Click on specials on the left, and then go to page 4 for the E36 cooling kit ($250). I did the whole job in about 3 hours, but I took my time cleaning off all the parts and engine. No special parts. The fan needs a 32mm open end wrench (it's reverse thread), and the belts need an 8mm allen wrench that fit's on a socket, but it's not hard at all.
