Date: Mon, 11 Nov 2002 20:59:50 -0500 From: Mo Karamat <karamatm@optonline.net> Subject: RE: Stone Chip Rich, Hello. I have had several windshield repairs done on several different cars over the last few years. Only once did the chip turn into a crack.. The guy I know who repairs windshields told me that the key to the repair is as soon as the chip happens, cover it with scotch tape. The water, and debris that enter the chip will cause it to expand. It also depends on the size of the chip. Anyway depending in which state you live and insurance policy, if the insurance company pays for the repair, why not try it, there is nothing to lose.. Pretty decent sized chip (size of a nickel) near the left edge of the windshield. My insurance company in Ohio does not cover glass separate from comprehensive so you are subject to your deductible but they will fix stone chips (for safety precaution) for free. I had mine fixed the next day and would have been satisfied with the repair (still clearly visible but would have been adequate) had the chip not turned into a 4" crack by the next morning. Anyway, I have yet to put much faith in stone chip repair. YMMV. Regards, Rich 95 M3 90 325is - new windshield hopefully can wait until spring

It is a virus, but as I understand not a very dangerous one - it seems to only want to proliferate itself but does no real damage. It is also seems to be very new having only been identified on November 8th by one virus info site and Oct. 24 on another. Unfortunately, my anti-virus software was a couple weeks out of date. Sorry for the inconvenience, especially to anyone who's specific address was in my Outlook address book. Very good advice all. However, unless Ground Control just came out with camber plates for stock springs in the last month, you have to use "coil over type" Eibach Race Series springs with GC's camber plates. I think Jay himself has posted on this list that other projects are more pressing. I believe Ahmad wanted to keep his M3 as close to stock as possible. I would assume he has stock springs and struts. Unless you buy Eibach ERS springs and GC's adjustable spring perch, you won't be able to use the Ground Control camber plates. I have the K-Mac camber plates on my M3. I think K-Mac and TC Kline make the only camber plates for stock springs. Lowell Seaton '95 M3 BMW CCA #131505

#6. Calling all "Euro" oil cooler owners! - from Rob

Date: Mon, 11 Nov 2002 23:29:26 -0700 From: "Rob" <speedmaster@telus.net> Subject: Calling all "Euro" oil cooler owners! I have a Euro rad and oil cooler in my car combined with a US A/C condenser and front pusher fan. Probably the same combo that anyone with a US car and Euro oil cooler has. The US condenser is much taller (extends closer to the ground) than the Euro version and block off almost all the airflow to the Euro oil cooler. During normal operation my oil temps are fine (around 100c), but during severe track use they climb too high (130c+). Has anyone else has this issue? Has anyone found a good way to route more air to the oil cooler without having to install the $Euro$ condenser and associated lines, etc. Thanks, Rob

I did have a stone chip, I had it repaired in 24 hours, the spot was clean and dry between the time the chip occurred and it was repaired, and the company that repaired it (Safelite) said it wouldn't be a problem and it was a perfect candidate for repair. They were wrong, it cracked by the next morning. My insurance company did pay for the service but all other glass mishaps fall under my comprehensive subject to a $250 deductible. I agree with Mo, have it repaired if your insurance company pays for it since you will have nothing to lose. Now I am going to call them and let them know the repair failed and I will fix the glass on my own in the spring. Regards, Rich 95 M3 90 325is - new windshield hopefully can wait until spring

I have had good results from the self repair kits that you can buy from Autozone/Kmart etc for windshield repair. The ones that I have used consist of a syringe with a suction cup on the nozzle and contain some kind of low viscosity adhesive (probably cyanoacrylate). To use the device you adhere the suction cup to the windshield with the syringe nozzle directly over the chip. You then pull back the syringe plunger creating a vacuum within the syringe and then let it go quickly. The syringe springs back to its rest position and forces the adhesive into the windshield crack. I have used this kind of kit twice now and seen no spreading (spidering) of the crack either time. It may be worth looking into if your insurance company won't repair your windshield for you, it's a whole lot cheaper than a new one.
