The manual said just the negative, but I did both neg and positive. Don't want to leave the 5 kids without a dad! Now . . . if I can just get rid of the whine in the new stereo. Paul Smith 98 M3/4

We use them in WC where allowed (Ground Control), but not in IT where the rules prohibit. I have never bent one when another car or wall wasn't involved. To tow - put your straps through the wheel spokes and cross them - left tiedown on R wheel, etc. I prefer 4 straps, 1 per corner. Otherwise, the factory tiedowns under the jack pads are nice and fast, bracket required. (Sorry for the late reply - just back to work from Texas.) The JimC software is NOT CARB compliant. However, all evidence (including my own) indicates there is no problem passing CA smog check. I have experienced some occasional pinging with our wonderfully crappy CA 91 octane gas. Usually in really warm weather and pushing the car. For most daily-driving situations I've not noticed a problem. If you are running your car at the track AT ALL, you must boost the effective octane to help eliminate pinging. Easiest solution is to add in enough 100 octane (available at most CA tracks) to bring the effective octane of your tank of gas to 93-94. I do this all the time on the race car. Here's a snippet of an email conversation I had with JimC on this very subject: You need to realize that California's 92 RFG fuel was in reality about the equivalent of 90-91. Their "91" is more like 89-90.. And a stock car, with a recommendation of "91" (like most M cars) means you can squeak by with about 89-90 on MOST days assuming that the intake air temps aren't too hot. "Squeak by" does NOT mean.. RACE THE CAR.. it means DRIVE TO WORK. > I have a couple of questions on this, again from the standpoint of my own > ignorance: > - Is it possible to get "CA" chips, that are tuned for 91? Or does that not > make sense from a time/effort/cost standpoint? Or from the fact that's there > not a whole hell of a lot of difference between 91 & 92? It doesn't make sense, because many of the stock engines on stock chips/stock tune won't run well on "California 91".. which is about 89 in real octane terms.. Stock E36 96+ M3's are pinging. [snip] You really want to shoot for an "approximated octane" of 94. Hope that helps, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - "drive to work" only 1993 325is #44 KP - needs extra octane

Is the driveshaft from all E-36 6 cylinder cars the same? Do coupe and sedans have the same driveshaft? Anyone know of where to get re-manufactured driveshaft? Anyone have one laying around that wants to sell? Thanks Bill P
