I have seen it work on another list that I subscribe too and the vendors have not taken advantage of it. -Wayne -----Original Message----- From: Sue Kraft [mailto:suekraft@new.rr.com] Sent: Monday, November 18, 2002 3:13 PM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] List advertising Date: Mon, 18 Nov 2002 14:15:40 -0600 From: Sue Kraft <suekraft@new.rr.com> Subject: List advertising How do y'all feel about advertising on the list? I had a vendor ask this morning if he could run an ad on the list and advertise some prices and specials on various products. Before I make a decision, I'd really appreciate some feedback from listmembers and other vendors as well. The biggest problem here is being fair to all the vendors. If you let one advertise, you have to let them all advertise, and that could open up a big 'ole nasty can of worms. What say ye wise and venerable listmembers? Yay or Nay? Suzy ************************************************************* List Commands UNSUBSCRIBE - (in subject line) unsubscribes you from the mailing list. DIR - sends a listing of files available in the list's GET directory. GET filename1.ext,filename2.ext - sends the requested file(s). I've just briefly searched the archives without success. So if anyone can shed some light on this, that'd be great. TIA. Phil 99 Estoril M3/2

Well, I am certainly not wise or venerable but I will chime in. I pretty much agree with those comments already made. Keep it concise, clear, E36 M3 specific, and a deal or promotion, not general advertising unless it is like the UUC Digest where it is tacked on to the bottom of the digest (that is reasonable). I would charge a nominal amount so that it helps to support your cost for running the list/website. Regards, Rich

Date: Mon, 18 Nov 2002 16:37:41 -0500 (EST) From: "Mark Greer" <mark.greer@excite.com> Subject: Advertising I would like to hear about special list-member or CCA-member pricing along with some bullet point parts and pricing; maybe limited to 15-20 lines. This might include a link to get more information or could include a promotional discount code. Personally, I'd like to know about any parts supplier willing to provide xx% discounts to members. You might consider having them limit their posts to once per week so the content of the list doesn't completely change.Mark _______________________________________________ Join Excite! - http://www.excite.com The most personalized portal on the Web!

They issue a weekly email titled "BMW Digest Advertisers: regular posting" that contains paid advertisments. That way, it's easy to ignore if you so wish and the list owners still get to benefit from the advertising revenue. Personally I do find that pertinent advetisments are sometimes a benefit if they don't become obtrusive. Just my $.02. You have been extremely generous to run this list, and deserve to get something to help defray the cost. Why should it matter if it is on-topic or not (though on-topic advertising would probably do better). Nothing in life worth having is free. If "suffering" through a few lines of text is the cost of receiving such a great resource, I'd say it was seconds of time well spent. Go for it! How much is a "nominal" amount? I really have no clue as to what other lists charge. Seems like most of you (at least so far) are in favor of advertising, providing it is specific for this list, and limited to perhaps one or two posts a month. Suzy

Date: Mon, 18 Nov 2002 15:21:44 -0800 From: Reid Conti <reid@conti.net> Subject: wing screw anybody know if the wing on my 95 m3 (coupe, but has the sedan wing.. argh) uses some screw that's a BMW part, or just a standard screw? Somehow one of the screws came loose.. it's got rust all between the threads, and does not hold the wing. I'm hoping a new screw might hold it.. if not, I'll have to go slightly oversize and hope it bites into the urethane.. or... fill the hole in the wing with some kind of epoxy, let it dry, then screw into that.. ? unless someone else out there has a better idea not involving duct tape.. - reid
