#2. E36 front control arm bushings - from alex.fadeev@verizon.com

Date: Tue, 26 Nov 2002 13:04:07 -0600 From: alex.fadeev@verizon.com Subject: E36 front control arm bushings Folks, I've finally found time to consider replacing my wife's E36 328i's flimsy front control arm bushings with an E36M3 variant. My '95 M3 bushings have perfectly centered control arm sleeves, just like her original bushings. IIRC '96+ M3's bushings have an offset control arm sleeve. Am I correct in assuming that using '96+ bushings with control arm sleeves positioned outboard on her car (or for that matter my car) will get her a tid bit more front negative camber? Anything else to consider before ordering the parts? TIA, alex f

Chester already posted the P/N, but here's some other info: - The new stock hard brake line comes as a straight length. You'll need a tubing bender that handles small radius bends, and the old line to serve as a pattern. - You'll find it much less difficult to undo the fittings on this small line if you take it off the car and clamp it in a vise. - Apply a good quality penetrating oil (suggest Kroil or Wurth, maybe PB Blaster) to the fittings and let sit for a while first. - The fittings are soft and easy to round off. In my experience a flare nut wrench is NOT the best tool to use, because there's always some looseness. Instead use an adjustable wrench, because you can set it to eliminate all play. Another tool I've used with success is the Sears Clench-Wrench, because it's self-tightening. I'd really like to try the Facom ratcheting flare nut wrenches, since they're self-tightening too. on 11/26/02 1:37 PM, "Dave Kelley" <d.kelley@usa.net> wrote: > Speaking of stainless brake lines, can you guys recommend the best > type and source/price for stainless/teflon brake lines? The first thing to look for in a brake hose is that the fittings swivel. Otherwise when you tighten them up there's residual twisting torque. That excludes Goodridge, but Earl's are OK. Annoyingly a lot of the replacement hoses, including both the preceding, don't use metric sized fittings. WTF?? Haven't looked at the Fischer, but everything Steve D'G sells is usually good. The 95 M3 bushings are 1) solid rubber, and 2) offset to give more CASTOR, which gives more high speed stability. The 96+ bushings have holes in the rubber to make them more compliant and are centered. -----Original Message----- From: alex.fadeev@verizon.com [mailto:alex.fadeev@verizon.com] Sent: Tuesday, November 26, 2002 11:08 AM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] E36 front control arm bushings Date: Tue, 26 Nov 2002 13:04:07 -0600 From: alex.fadeev@verizon.com Subject: E36 front control arm bushings Folks, I've finally found time to consider replacing my wife's E36 328i's flimsy front control arm bushings with an E36M3 variant. Dave -----Original Message----- $225 : JT-Designs E36 M3 Racing Transmission Brace (for 1995 M3): http://store.yahoo.com/jtdesigns/higpertranbr.html Used a few times for a total of about a month. New unused bushing included so it's like new. I cleaned the dust off it and it isn't even scratched. This brace is the model for 96+ M3's, it won't fit 95 M3, 318, 325, or 328 (or my race car which is why I am selling it). This brace FAR exceeds all the other methods (I have tried them) but it does add noise to the cabin. It takes about 20-30 minutes to install and is perfect for a race car or track car as if you miss a shift with it you made the mistake, the gates always lined up perfectly for me. #7. Feedback on TC Kline Trackline Suspension - from Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net

Date: Tue, 26 Nov 2002 15:31:49 -0500 From: <Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net> Subject: Feedback on TC Kline Trackline Suspension For those that asked for data a few weeks back. Last Tuesday/Wednesday I drove to Memphis, TN (to play in the Racquetball U.S. Open) from Wilbraham, MA, and returned Sunday/Monday. A round trip of over 2500 miles. Driving was done enduro style.... I drove the entire trip, down in about 20.5 hours, back in about 19.5 hours, including stops. '96 M3 suspension equipped as follows: 8.5x17 M-Contours with Kumho 235/30 712s front and rear UUC sway bars front and rear UUC strut bar front, Bavarian rear stress bar BMW X-Brace TC Kline Trackline suspension, Konis set to 1/2 stiff for front and 3/4 stiff for rear with bumpstops trimmed on front. stock alignment settings While I found the ride very firm, it was not uncomfortable. There were some bumps that were particularly hard, and if I were driving in an area where they were common it would probably deter me from wanting this suspension in a daily driver. All other pavement issues were taken very firmly by the suspension. The southern sections of rte 81 and all of rte 40 I drove on were very pleasant with the suspension. My wife, passenger/navigator, was able to sleep quite a few times, so the ride was definitely tolerable. No idea, as I don't have access to the TSB itself, all I know is that it fixes the idle hunting/stalling problem on S52US, covering all M3, M convertible, M Roadster that use this motor. >What is the Rev. of the DME update ? No idea here either. >This phenomena is likely the CSSR: Cold-Start-Spark-Retard. The DME retards timing to light-off the cats during cold-start. It happens to mine as well. Well now it feels like some is giving the car a bit more choke and the timing does feel slightly MORE advanced (sorry for the carb like analogy) and in turn the idle goes to ~1000-1500rpm depending on how cold it is. No more hunting, stalling, hesitation, cars pulls nice and strong when cold (My shift points are no higher than 4k when the car is cold). >Just another symptom that Dual-Vanos fixes :-) You would be one of those with a S52 Euro motor?? -Justin -- '76 02 (Whimsical) '97 M3 (Orion) BMW CCA#77056 check out http://users.vei.net/jgerry
