#2. Ecsta V700 for autoxing - from Mdriver13@aol.com

Date: Thu, 28 Nov 2002 13:59:45 EST From: Mdriver13@aol.com Subject: Ecsta V700 for autoxing Group, I'm about to order new r-compound tires for next season. Anyone use the new Kumho Ecsta V700 for autoxing this past season? If so, what did you think? My current tire has been the VictoRacer V700 in size 245x45x17. This tire gripped well enough for me, especially with the low negative camber I run, and lasted two seasons. Biggest down side was the big diameter of this tire. The new Ecsta comes in 235x40x17, I like that. TIA, Bob Gill 97 ///M3 coupe Philly Region SCCA AS Champion '97 & '00 BSP Champion '01 & '02

The program xfer with the shark is one way (from the shark to the car). You can't overwrite what's on the shark. Incidentally, if you forget which program you installed last, the injector will abort the download and blink an error code if you try to download the same program over itself. - Bill

#5. Stock brake line removal - from Chris Conner

Date: Thu, 28 Nov 2002 17:57:15 -0500 From: "Chris Conner" <chris@digital7.com> Subject: Stock brake line removal I used a 14mm and 11mm flare wrench to remove the stock lines when I did it on my 50k 99. I had absolutely no trouble until the very last line. I have a feeling it was due to me slacking off a bit, after it got really dark outside. I slightly rounded off the 11mm nut, and now it's not going anywhere. I'm sure if you hit them with pb blaster and are careful of your wrench placement, you won't have a problem. I took the calipers off before removing the line going to them. Having a helper to hold the caliper while you wrench helps greatly. -------------------- 3 -------------------- Date: Wed, 27 Nov 2002 10:26:21 -0500 From: Chris Papademetrious <chrispy@ieee.org> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Re: Brake line PART# needed At 01:17 PM 11/26/2002 -0600, Neil Maller wrote: >- Apply a good quality penetrating oil (suggest Kroil or Wurth, maybe PB >Blaster) to the fittings and let sit for a while first. >- The fittings are soft and easy to round off. I recently purchased a set of lines >>from BMP, and would like to put them on the car myself. My fear is that the existing factory hoses on my 95 M3 (130k miles) are pretty happy where they are. I was going to tilt the odds in my favor by putting the car up in the air, and soaking all the fittings with PB Blaster a few times a day over the course of a few days. That Clench-Wrench looks pretty trick! I'll be picking that kit up. Will this thing get into the fittings when changing out the hoses on the car? I had a quick look under the car the other day, and it appears that I may only have room for a flare nut wrench in some locations. :( (The previous poster appears to be removing the fittings off-car while replacing a section of hard line.) Any other tips for getting these lines off a high mileage New England car? Or is it just a matter of getting under there and seeing if I'm lucky? :) Thanks in advance for your suggestions. - Chris -------------------- 4 -------------------- Date: Wed, 27 Nov 2002 15:59:34 +0000 From: "Jonathan Evans" <jonathanevans@hotmail.com> Subject: VANOS replacement cost Bad rattle at 1200rpm and metal shavings on the valve cover indicate a quickly disentigrating VANOS system. The VANOS adjusting unit is approx $200. The VANOS cam gear is approx $45. The VANOS sprocket is approx $32. Chain tensioners are about $100 for both. Now, of course it depends on what they will actually do and replace. I can see most places just replacing the adjustment unit. Replacing the cam gear insert requires removal of the cam or you risk damaging it. Done right to replace all those parts, I would estimate a competent mechanic 3 - 4 hours. Factor in another hour to check for proper operation, but then again, not sure if they would do this either. The alternative is to do this yourself :) Chester --- Jonathan Evans <jonathanevans@hotmail.com> wrote: > Date: Wed, 27 Nov 2002 15:59:34 +0000 > From: "Jonathan Evans" <jonathanevans@hotmail.com> > Subject: VANOS replacement cost > > Bad rattle at 1200rpm and metal shavings on the valve cover indicate a > quickly disentigrating VANOS system. > > If anyone has had this replaced, please give me an estimate on labor and > parts costs. Thus, if you're shipping 4 wheels that are individually billed (each with cardboard taped to their sides), then each one will have a surcharge of $5.00. For bare tires, I've bundled two, sometimes even three, together as one large package in order to have only one $5.00 surcharge. If available, you may want to check with FedEx Ground for shipping. I've found it to be cheaper than UPS Ground. But they also have the $5.00 surcharge for unboxed items. Nick > Anyone with experience shipping by UPS?
