Date: Thu, 28 Nov 2002 22:56:43 -0800 (PST) From: David Ngo <rudngo@yahoo.com> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Ecsta V700 for autoxing Bob, I used 235/40-17 Ecsta V700s this year in 14 events after using a set of Victoracers in 225/45-17 all last season. They started off at full tread depth and were heat cycled. I found that for the first three events or so, they felt worse than the Victoracers - grip was down and the tires felt pretty squirmy (that was to be expected with full tread tires.) After they wore down a bit and I figured out the pressures, they behaved much better. IMHO, they now grip better than the Victoracers did, particularly in braking and initial turn-in. It seems like the track guys don't like them very much, but I wouldn't hesitate to get another set for autox. If I don't buy Hoosiers next, I will get another set of Ecstas (shaved this time!) The one bad thing about the Ecstas is that they seem to wear a bit faster than the Victoracers. As a reference, my car has Koni SAs, Eibach Pro-Kit springs, and about -2 deg. of camber all around. I usually use 37lbs front and 32lbs rear cold to start out with. After I set them, I rarely touch pressures after that. I would hazard a guess that you will feel a noticeable difference going with a lower profile tire and lower overall diameter with the Ecstas. YMMV. The main reason I went with Kumhos over Hoosiers this time was that I like to drive to events on my race rubber. :-) Dave --- Mdriver13@aol.com wrote: > Date: Thu, 28 Nov 2002 13:59:45 EST > From: Mdriver13@aol.com > Subject: Ecsta V700 for autoxing > > > Group, > > I'm about to order new r-compound tires for next > season. UPS will move packages in the 70-150 lb. range, but they get a Heavy Package (a.k.a. "Don't move this by yourself") sticker, and a higher rate. No reason to do that for wheels; just ship two packages. -- David Ripton dripton@ripton.net

At least thats how Tire rack and everyone I know ships them. They're just too heavy in pairs. I wouldn't want the UPS guy struggling with my packages. Bob, I ran these at local DC area events on a friend's E36 323is last year (DSP car we took to nationals). On asphalt they are very competitive with the Hoosier A3S03... maybe a couple tenths off if that. On concrete the Hoosiers are still better. I found them easy to drive and very good in the rain at or near full tread - great intermediate wet tire. Based on that experience I plan on getting a set of the 235/40-17s for my M3 this year for all local competition. Still have Hoosiers for the national stuff, but the Kumhos are much more cost effective for local competition. They still outlast the Hoosiers by a good margin and are almost as fast except on concrete. No problems with fitment as you would expect. -- Ron Katona
