I opted on a full set of SO3s because I was worried about mixing rubber. That said -- is it possible that your rears just need to be broken in? I found that my SO2 break-in was very quick, while my SO3s required *at least* 500 miles. I stopped noticing a greasiness around 1000 miles. I'll also say the SO3s appear to be lasting much longer, tread-life-wise. But all in all, I like the SO2s better: they seemed to track better in a straight line, and suffer less bump steer. But that might just be in my head; it's all very difficult to tell without comparing one right after the other on the same road. For what it's worth, other e36 m3 owners feel mixing axles between SO3s and SO2s is OK. I wouldn't worry too much about it on the street, though I'd consider the issues at hand on the track. Date: Mon, 2 Dec 2002 18:46:56 -0600 From: "Bruce" <gobuffs93@attbi.com> Subject: (re)introduction and tire question... I used to be on this list when I have a 98 M roadster (long since sold). I recently purchased a 95 M3 (white/black- 59k miles on it) for a daily driver. The rear tires need to be replaced (in addition to the rear sway bar tabs needing reinforcement). The car has 5 MXX3s- the 2 rears being near the wear bars, while the other 3 are in pretty good shape. I can't figure out exacly how many miles are on them and I have no idea how to accurately measure the tread depth on them. They appear to have between 1/4 and 3/8s left on the 3 good tires. I know the MXX3s are loved by many, but finding 2 new ones is next to impossible. Is there are market to sell the 3 tires I have left? What are they worth? I want to replace all 4 as the car seems a bit nervous on the highway (and thats before 2 new rear tires) Thanks, Bruce 95 M3 89 M3

#4. '95 M3 dash noise - from eevans@planetc.com

Date: Mon, 02 Dec 2002 21:04:33 -0500 From: eevans@planetc.com Subject: '95 M3 dash noise I know this is going to sound very strange, but I have this weird squeaking noise coming from the front instrument panel. I swear it sounds like a tape being rewound. It's very faint, but I do hear it only when moving. No it isn't the Beatles's album being played backwards, but it does sound like a recording being run backwards. I have no idea where to go first other than pulling the instrument panel out and looking. Is there a speedo cable involved here or is it electronic? TIA Evan Evans President Smoky Mountain Chapter

I don't think the right and left sides are actuated individually. It is possible that the ABS control unit is faulty, but I don't think it would cause one of the rear sides to lock prematurely. You may want to solicit a second opinion from another dealer or independent. Good luck, Butch -------------------- 6 -------------------- Date: Mon, 02 Dec 2002 11:43:59 -0500 From: eevans@planetc.com Subject: ABS Control Unit ?s Gruppe, My '95 M3 has been diagnosed w/ a faulty ABS control unit. The dealer read the codes and it says that I have a faulty valve that controls the left rear wheel...

I needed to replace two MXX3s last year (small sharp metal objects should not be left on roads), and each time I found plenty of people with one or two good MXX3s to unload. They were surprisingly cheap -- around $75 each IIRC. So in your shoes I'd try to buy one (IMO having a spare near the wear bars is no big deal) or two used MXX3s before trying to sell three. (I actually have a couple wasting garage space, but unfortunately they're 225/45 and 245/40, not the 235/40 size that you want for a 1995 M3.) -- David Ripton dripton@ripton.net

If they are 235/40's, I have one MXX3 in pretty decent shape that I can sell you for $75 plus shipping. If they are 245/40's, I might be interested in buying them. If they are 225/45's, then I can't use them. Any listers planning on attending the DCI school at Laguna Seca this Dec. 30th, followed by a New Years Eve party the next day in Monterey?
