Be forewarned...CARFAX doesn't always have the write information. A certain list member who had one big accident and then a totalled car still shows the title as being clean. LOL! Chester =====

I used a set on my car for pictures to demonstrate pad wear with our new brake guide pin bushing kit. They have been used for approximately 20 hard stops - virtually unused as far as a street pad goes. They are on the transporter, so it will be a week or so before I can send them out. The jack looks nice, works decent, but will not hold up to heavy usage. One broke at road atlanta recently, but also heard it was operator error. Also I think someone mentioned being involved with the testing of this jack and they stated they would not own one. Carfax isnt a car history service, just a title search service. Small fender benders arent reported, thankfully, etc. It is for issues with a total loss car being rebuilt etc. Also useful to see the life history of the car such as the states it has been titled in etc. Mike ----- Original Message ----- From: "DocWyte" <josh_wyte@yahoo.com> To: "E36M3" <e36m3@bmw-m.net> Sent: Tuesday, December 10, 2002 4:29 PM Subject: Re: [E36M3] Does someone have CarFAX access and can run a VIN for me?? > Date: Tue, 10 Dec 2002 13:26:35 -0800 (PST) > From: DocWyte <josh_wyte@yahoo.com> > Subject: Re: [E36M3] Does someone have CarFAX access and can run a VIN for me?? > > Most of Carfax "reports" are just when someone > registered or titled the car. #10. RE: [E36M3] Does someone have CarFAX access and can run a VIN for me?? - from Seth Thomas

Date: Tue, 10 Dec 2002 16:59:15 -0500 From: "Seth Thomas" <porsche993@mindspring.com> Subject: RE: [E36M3] Does someone have CarFAX access and can run a VIN for me?? Oh I have to disagree with you about Carfax. It helps you to look at the history of a car and see if there has been some fishy stuff done to the car. Example that happened to me. I bought a 1996 M3 from a guy that had high recommendations from lots of people. One guy I know well thought the car was cherry and would have loved to have bought it. I did not run a Carfax on the car because not only of these recommendations and it was a CPO car as stuff had been repaired under CPO warranty while the guy I bought it from owned the car. But guess what, it comes time for me to sell it. I get a guy interested and he runs a CarFax on it. He found out the car had a previous salvaged title in NJ. But it had been cleaned up in PA. Guy I bought the car from is totally trustworthy and never knew anything about it. He got scammed from the guy he bought the car from. I was lucky in the guy still wanted the car but it cost me by not running a CarFax. So I highly recommend it. One other thing to consider is that CarFax only picks up on incidences reported or claimed on insurance. If I have a minor fender bender and get the car repaired without insurance being involved then Carfax will not pick it up. This is fine with me as a fender bender is not as bad as having a salvaged title or something similar. Fender benders are easily repaired where as a bent frame is a lot more of a headache to fix. That is my $.02.
