The belts are approx 2 years old, primarily used during 2001 (as I sold the car in July 2002) and have never been involved in a crash. I am building a new Club Racer for 2003 and have decided to order a new set of belts for my racecar to start it with the freshest date possible. $100 for both sets and I would rather sell both sets together. #2. Lifetime of GC RSM Bushing? - from Dahlstrand, Kurt

Date: Thu, 12 Dec 2002 15:59:19 -0500 From: "Dahlstrand, Kurt" <kdahlstrand@empirix.com> Subject: Lifetime of GC RSM Bushing? Guys, All this talk about RSM's has me wondering about people's experience with the lifetime of Ground Control's rear shock mount bushing. I purchased and installed a used pair of GC RSM's this past summer. I also installed a set of Koni Sport shocks (front/rear) at the same time. Huge difference initially, but over time my car has succumbed to squeeking (I assume from the bushings) and lately I am getting quite a bit of clunking. The previous owner told me the RSM's (and bushings) had about 40k miles on them already, and Ground Control insured me that their bushings don't need to be replaced. So, I installed the original owner's GC bushings. It seems that maybe I should have bought a new pair when I installed them. Is there any tell-tale method for identifying the source of my clunking? -Kurt '97/4 possibly needing new bushings

Although it's really not as tricky as text-only instructions may make it seem. > Through my contacts in the VW world, I can get > things...like Schroth harnesses for instance. > > They're a special order for my distributor and will > take 7-10 days for him to get them, then shipping time > to us, but I can get them. However now Schroth have a factory engineered version of it, so that's clearly the thing to get in a 4 point. Neil 96 M3 - Schroth Profi III 6 points

#4. Will a pre-1/95 M3 DME work in 1/95+ M3? - from Geof McLaughlin

I know that a DME w/EWS (Bosch #413, 1/95+) will not work in another M3 without the chip being reburned, but will a DME without EWS (Bosch #506, pre-1/95) work in a 1/95+ M3 that previously had the DME w/EWS? Thanks. Geof

#5. Was: dead pedal Now PowerFlex Squeak - from Steve Klein

Date: Thu, 12 Dec 2002 16:12:29 -0600 From: Steve Klein <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: Was: dead pedal Now PowerFlex Squeak Thanks for your responses on the removal of the dead pedal. On another note and since RTB's are a topic, a few weeks ago I performed my 'mod' to the Powerflex RTB's that were squeaking over every bump. Basically, I used a 1/16" burring tool in the ol' Dremel and routed out 4 helical grooves in each half of each set. The removal of material was minimal, but the channels held a good dose of the copper grease provided and so far, no squeak. I think the combination of breaking up the surface along with grease retention has done the trick. Cheers, Steve

#6. Track outing - M3 meets Laguna - from Scott McClung
Top
Date: Thu, 12 Dec 2002 14:35:35 -0800 From: Scott McClung <scott.mcclung@ubicom.com> Subject: Track outing - M3 meets Laguna I had the opportunity to take my '98 M3 sedan for it's first outing at my favorite track on Tuesday of this week with our Northern CA Racing Club (http://ncracing.org/). My track experience has all been in larger V8 cars - Camaro's and Vettes. I autox'ed a 3rd gen Camaro for ~3 years in FS and ESP and then found road course work much more exciting so did that for awhile with the Camaro. Then I started realizing the limits of the heavy, solid axle unibody platform and switched to a '91 Corvette about 3 years ago. I was not sure if I would lose some of the thrill of the V8 thrust down the straights, but the M3 didn't disappoint. The vette is for sale, btw.... Day started off looking like we would stay dry, but sure enough by the 8am drivers meeting it was drizzling. Wet track on the first session meant going really slow, staying as smooth as possible and generally taking it easy. I managed one minor spin out of T9, which has always been a tough section of the course for me - I just had a touch too much momentum and the back starting coming around so I made the quick decision to go both feet in and ride it out rather than try to correct and make things worse. Stayed mostly on the track, just put 1 or 2 off near a berm in a slow spin. Oh well - it was no biggie. Next session was slippery but starting to dry out. Final two sessions were fully dry, despite some sprinkles during the 3rd session which didn't seem to wet the track enough to lower the grip any. I was highly impressed with the M3's capabilities on the track and I expected to be from the street driving I've done. The car is very well balanced, smooth and generally easy to drive fast. My car is bone stock and on mediocre P7000 tires, yet I was able to get into the high 1:50's by the end of the day. Not too shabby for a bone stock sedan that doubles as my daily driver and business car!! Another testament to BMW were the brakes - zero fade all day long, and I was going pretty hard by the last session. The M3 really rewards smoothness and at the same makes you drive smooth (if that makes any sense). I could probably have used ~300-400 more rpm for this track, so makes me think about a chip with a higher rev limiter. The stock suspension is pretty balanced - no complaints until I get on better tires anyway. It was sure fun beating Corvettes and Porsche's in my 4-door sedan ;-) (not that I beat all the vettes or RX7 TT's out there mind you) Next time out I'll be on Proxes RA-1 235-40-17's on BBS RK 17x8's. I just picked up the wheels and need to get the tires mounted. Bottom line, I confirmed my suspicions that the M3 is a great dual purpose track and street car w/o having very many compromises towards either side. Something I wasn't sure existed... Scott '98 M3/4 - white '02 Suburban '91 Corvette track rat - for sale..... Bottom line,

It's a 5W bulb, #168 (NAPA p/n, I guess), $1.11 each here in the inflated-prices SF Bay Area :-) (All I did was remove one of them and take it to the store. They found the correct one.) Hope that helps, Jim Bassett
