#1. Typical service I and II costs? - from Tom Reynolds

Date: Thu, 19 Dec 2002 23:37:18 -0700 From: Tom Reynolds <kjtar@earthlink.net> Subject: Typical service I and II costs? Hi list, Newbie ? with regards to the "typical" service I and II costs, dealer and (most likely) non-dealer. Car would most likely be a '95, so OBD I only. I live 80 some miles from a BMW dealer, but there's a pretty good indy in town who does Mercedes, BMW, Volvo, etc. His rate (so far) is $60/hour, just wondering what kind of costs I might expect on scheduled services. Thanks very much, Tom Reynolds Hereford, AZ

#3. Koni DA vs. Advance Design Shocks - from Chris Teague
Top
Date: Thu, 19 Dec 2002 22:51:57 -0800 From: "Chris Teague" <cteague@cox.net> Subject: Koni DA vs. Advance Design Shocks I have a set of Koni double adjustable shocks I got used for SCCA stock class autox. I now run SCCA SM. I upgraded to H&R sports springs, x-brace, Eibach sways with F/R Ground-Control End links, and the GC Rear control arm shims. Wheels are 17x9 SSR Integrals. The car feels like it handles well, but of course I would like to go faster. Has anyone compared Koni DA to advance design DA's? Or should I upgrade the Koni's to coilovers and go with stiffer springs? If I keep the Koni's, do they ever need rebuilding? (Current valving is doing fine) Chris 97 M3/4

#10. What's the damage? - from Steve Klein
Top
Date: Fri, 20 Dec 2002 09:41:02 -0600 From: Steve Klein <klein@robinsonad.com> Subject: What's the damage? Hello, Group- This morning, on the way to work, I got a check coolant level warning on the display, so I pulled into an O'Reiley automotive on the way before the engine temp got out of the blue bar and too hot to add to. After consulting the manual and looking for something 'nitrate and amino' free, in desperation I chose Prestone Quick Fill, a 50/50 mix of demineralized water and ethylene glycol/diethylene glycol. The coolant was just at the sensor level, and I added just enough to bring it up to the line. So, knowing that BMW has a specific coolant formulation need, (no silicates?) have I compromised it? If need be, I'll plan on getting the good stuff from the dealer and flushing the system this weekend. I do need to check for a leak somewhere as I periodically get the sweet coolant smell when I get out of the car after a long drive. Thanks for your help, Steve

But it is pretty funny. Hmm. I just blew my credibility! That's what I get for poking fun at others' grammar. :) On an E36-related note, I find myself becoming more E30-like every time I convince myself I wouldn't be THAT happy with an E46 and all its soft luxury, and my E36 can still keep up with all the fancy new cars they're releasing these days (350Z etc.)... - Chris

#14. Moving a Trailer - from dholeman

Date: Fri, 20 Dec 2002 11:16:21 -0500 From: "dholeman" <dholeman@racepad.com> Subject: Moving a Trailer Hi, A couple of thoughts and suggestions: 1. First and foremost... If you found an Aluminium trailer like a featherlite in good condition for $1500 you got the best deal on the planet. A good open Aluminum trailer new is north of $5K and used at around $4K. So trailering it for $500 is not so bad afterall when you look at the whole cost 2. Post out on this digest and others for anyone willing to tow it for you. One guy asked me to tow his car from Cleveland, OH to Philadelphia, PA for a few bucks and I did it for him (mind you I live in Boston). 3. Check out what the trailer companies do 4. Contact horseless carriage and other transporters to see what they have to offer 5. Find a friend and make a road trip out of this. David Holeman www.racepad.com Date: Thu, 19 Dec 2002 10:53:21 -0500 From: m3ltw@msn.com Subject: Re: Moving a Trailer > Wrom: AAFXISHJEXXIMQZUIVOTQNQEMSFDULHPQQWO > > Considering buying an aluminum, open trailer in Lansing, MI. Need to get > it to Las Vegas. Anyone got any ideas/recommendations/assistance on cost > effective ways of getting it to Las Vegas without having to drive all > the way to Lansing to pick it up. TIA. You may spend more in transporting the trailer than any savings in buying it in MI, unless towing is a viable option (and even that costs several hundred+ in fuel, lodging, food, time, etc). Try contacting several moving, shipping companies. Also, ask trailer manufacturers (pretend you bought one of their trailers) how they get their trailers around the country. FYI, the high shipping costs are one reason why most trailer companies are regional. Who wants to pay $500 shipping on a $1,500 open trailer?
