#2. Steering wheel vibration - from Paul Elliott

I've had the front tires re-balanced - no change<< Jim, since you say this is only a recent occurence, I dont know if this is it or not. But, I had a steering wheel vibration ever since I had the car. For over half a year, I took it to various shops, including the selling dealer, and they all either said they show balanced, or, they did a slight rebalance. But in every case, the shimmy remained. Until, I did what I should have doen initially: dig up a shop that had the much touted Hunter 9700 balance machine, that can check for road force balance. Only after I had all 4 wheels done on this machine did the shimmy finally disappear. It also costs less for the pair with brackets than a single Momo Street Racer does sans brackets. Corbeau's service is also excellent. They updated the brackets after I bought it to fix an alignment problem in the coupe, and they sent me a set for free. Also, the fabric on my seats faded (bad batch) so they sent me new skins as soon as I mentioned it. My only complaint is the seat width. I have a very broad back, and the shoulder area is a little narrow for me. Nothing horrendous, but not perfect. If you're average size or smaller, the seats should be a great fit. -peterg

Date: Sat, 21 Dec 2002 15:20:34 -0500 From: Jeff Thompson <jthompson@telco.com> Subject: Re:[E36M3] A bit OT: Disputing a handicap parking violation I think Joe has a good point here. If you were in the car with the keys in the ignition, you don't qualify as parked. Some poeple I know learned this the hard way. They were sitting in their parked car, listening to the radio without the car even running because they knew they were too drunk to drive, but the bars had closed. The cop came by and slapped them with a DWI and hauled them in. The car wasn't running, they weren't moving, but they were charged with a DWI and it stuck. Another guy that I kinda knew in college was charged with DWI for being asleep in the back of his own car with the keys in the ignition (once again, so he could listen to the radio). I don't know if that one stuck tho. So, if you are in a car with the keys in the ignition you're apparently driving whether the car is running or not. Unless there was a "no loitering" sign, I think you should fight it. The $275 is probably just to buy extra booze for the X-mas police ball anyway. Also, if you want to hang out drunk in your car, wire your radio to a constant 12V source, not to the ignition. :) HTH, -jeff > >From: Joe Tan <mailjtan@yahoo.com> >Subject: Re: [E36M3] A bit OT: Disputing a handicap parking violation > [snip] > >But back to answer the original post. Is the handicapped person supposed to get out of their car, come up to his and ask him to move? That's not really realistic, they're *handicapped*. I'm all for the little guy, but this is a no-brainer. If you're not handicapped, or your friends aren't, then they can easily walk a few hundred yards to your car. -josh --- Jeff Thompson <jthompson@telco.com> wrote: > Date: Sat, 21 Dec 2002 15:20:34 -0500 > From: Jeff Thompson <jthompson@telco.com> > Subject: Re:[E36M3] A bit OT: Disputing a handicap > parking violation > > > I think Joe has a good point here. Date: Sat, 21 Dec 2002 12:43:26 -0800 From: Reid Conti <reid@conti.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Re: Disputing a handicap parking violation Well, for one, we might dispute whether he was truly "parked" or not, depending on how the law reads. It sounds like he was in his car, and the engine may have even been running. Clearly he was in a position to move if a handicapped person came along. I'm not saying this is OK, but it might not technically be illegal. Even if it is illegal, maybe he's just asking for help. He's admitting he screwed up, but doesn't want to pay $275. Even if he gets out of the fine, I'm sure the hassle of this whole experience will make him think twice before he does the same thing again. I'm not saying I agree with able-bodied people parking in handicapped spots, but then again, I think speeding is OK so my values are clearly screwed up. As long as people on this list consider it acceptable to try to get out of speeding tickets (I sure as hell do), then I'm not going to tell him to face the music and pay up. He's learned his lesson even if he avoids the fine. Handicapped humor: I saw this license plate frame the other day on a car with disabled plates (Washington State has special license plates for the disabled that you can use instead of having a placard or whatnot): "I'd rather be walking" - reid > Date: Sat, 21 Dec 2002 10:27:01 -0800 (PST) > From: DocWyte <josh_wyte@yahoo.com> > Subject: Re: [E36M3] Re: Disputing a handicap parking violation > > I agree. #9. Re: [E36M3] Unusual Stalling Problem - Please Help - from Nick

Date: Sat, 21 Dec 2002 17:13:14 -0600 From: Nick <nbartelt@comcast.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] Unusual Stalling Problem - Please Help My 1995 M3 (9/95 build) has been experiencing a intermittent problem. While driving, (no specific gear, RPM, or throttle position) the power will go away (similar to exceeding redline), the rpms will stay up, but the car is coasting in gear. A blip of the throttle will sometime return normal control, sometimes not. If not, the car will slow and stall. 50% of the time I can restart the car and drive normally. The other 50% the car will start, idle around 600, then as soon as I touch the gas, it will stall. I can attempt restarting and it will stall again as soon as the throttle is applied. After waiting 10 - 30 minutes, the car will usually start and run fine for 20 -30 minutes before the whole thing repeats. Inital suspicion was the throttle position switch, I replaced it with a new switch and the problem was unchanged. Mods: TMS Chip, Euro HFM, 24lb injectors. Any and all ideas would be appreciated. #10. 95 M3 dyno results... - from Bruce

Date: Sat, 21 Dec 2002 17:45:01 -0600 From: "Bruce" <gobuffs93@attbi.com> Subject: 95 M3 dyno results... Yes I know comparing dyno runs from different dynos to be a futile experience...so...let's not go there. Dyno run today in Dallas. Dynojet 248C. I forgot my diskette to get the run data and didn't have them print out anything but the graphs so I don't know the atmospheric data (warm for Dallas morning 55 degrees? pressure probably just below 30 inches? no clouds). Best result...remember this is a bone stock, 60k mile 95...HP 223.4...torque 210.4. Mind you I am totally happy with these numbers (too bad the car is just a daily driver), but does anybody want to hazard a guess as to why it outside the normal 95 HP values of 195-210? Thanks, Bruce
