Date: Sun, 22 Dec 2002 13:15:22 -0500 From: "Chris Conner" <chris@digital7.com> Subject: Chugging in 1st through 4th gear Recently my car has been giving me a chugging noise in 1st through 4th gears. Fifth makes no noise. I removed my shift boot and insulation, and drove around like that. The noise was VERY loud, and when I let off the gas in gear, it makes a tinkling metal on metal noise, like loose bolts/washers. The car performs just fine. I have a Rogue short shifter, which I've had for about 20k miles (1 year). Any ideas on what it could be? I took a brief look underneath, and didn't see anything obvious. Possibly loose bolts on the guibo? Before removing the SS/m50 manifold/etc and taking it to the dealer for warranty work, I'd like to see if I can fix it myself. Any help is appreciated. Reply here or iJustCloseMyEyes on AIM. Thanks. Chris

It is time for a new battery in the 'ol E36 and I'd love to replace the original with a lighter one! After doing a bit of research it seems as if the Dynabatt won't work for my needs. This baby needs to start 24/7/365 and in any temp, from -20 to +100. I don't need a 10lb "race" battery but I'd be happy finding a 25-35lb one instead of the stocker at ~50lbs! Happy Holidays, Rob

I recall reading that earlier dynojets, like the 248E running early PEP software, gave lower numbers than the later models and software. I'm pretty sure no dyno tests back in the 95 time frame were recording 223 rwhp on a stock 95 M3. This "grade inflation" theory is hard to validate, but there have been references to it in some tuner-type magazines. I'd like to see a definitive write-up somewhere on the calibration histories and evolution of the dynojets. Now, it your case, maybe this is the issue and maybe it isn't. As a start, we need to understand what the environmental factors were during the test...baro pressure, temperature, humidity, and test elevation....I assume that the numbers you report are "SAE Corrected" numbers...and there can be issues with these corrections...like where was the thermocouple during the test? If it's sitting in a hot engine bay, then you will get way-optimistic correction factor. Conforti has also reported a common problem of pressure sensors failing with a too-low reading...again leading to a way-optimistic correction factor. It your case, what was the correction factor? And what where the real ambient conditions? Date: Sun, 22 Dec 2002 12:24:48 -0600 From: "Christopher Griffith" <ctgriffit@yahoo.com> Subject: Peake Code F6 Revisited All, In recent weeks my MY97 M3 has been setting the CEL and storing the code F6, corresponding to secondary airflow insufficient. I have searched the archives regarding the Peake Tool code F6, but to no avail. It appears there have been many people who have had this problem, but no one has come up with a conclusive solution. Any real world feedback on what the resolution might be would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chris G. Dallas, TX

ABSOLUTELY no difference in performance (Limerock time trials confirms this). The sedan uses different seats (sport seats like the 325i) and the coupe uses Vadar seats. I like the coupe seats better, coupe sytling better. Secondly I wanted to put rollbar in the car. In the 4 door, you are done since you cannot access through the rear doors wheareas with the coupe, you can take out the brace and have people in and out. The B pillar arms makes the sedan more stiffer than the coupe. Car and Driver did a test a while ago and confirmed that the sedan handles better (by a fraction I think). So it really boils down to personal preference. Ahmad _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your e-mail with MSN 8. I'd be pretty reluctant to carry people in the back seat of the coupe with a rollbar installed, even with the cross brace out. If you got into an accident anyone seating back there would smack their head into the main hoop of the roll bar with potentially fatal results. IMO, installing a rollbar into any car makes it a two seater... -josh --- Ahmad Lutfeali <m3_racer99@hotmail.com> wrote: > Date: Sun, 22 Dec 2002 18:30:37 +0000 > From: "Ahmad Lutfeali" <m3_racer99@hotmail.com> > Subject: Re: E36 M3/4-door vs E36 M3/2-door... > > Pat, > > I have owned a 98/4 and now have a coupe. #7. Tires for '95 M3 - from DocWyte

Date: Sun, 22 Dec 2002 11:22:06 -0800 (PST) From: DocWyte <josh_wyte@yahoo.com> Subject: Tires for '95 M3 I have the staggered embossed ltw wheels for the car. When I bought the car they had a mix matched set of tires. Neither pair are particularly sticky tires (kumoh 712's and goodyear hp's), so I want to dump the whole set. However, cost is a factor, so I can't be spending $1000 for a set of tires. Read no Pilot sports or S03's for me. I'd really like to try the new Kumho MX's, they've gotten good reviews so far. However, it doesn't look like they're available in 235-40-17. At least when I put in that size on the Tire Rack site they don't come up... However, they are available in 245-40-17. Can I run those up front on my 7.5" wheels with no rubbing or difficulties? Otherwise I'm thinking about buying the Yokohama ES100's... Anyone using the MX's or ES100's care to comment on their performance? -josh ===== Josh Wyte Momentum Motorsports 508-833-3024 After 5 pm EST __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
