Date: Sun, 22 Dec 2002 18:11:14 EST From: Carguymb@aol.com Subject: Re: Tires for '95 M3 Josh, The 235's are already too wide for 7-1/2" wheels, according to most tyre companies (225 is the widest tyre typically suggested for a 7-1/2" rim; can you say M=Marketing?), so the 245's are almost certainly too wide by any objective measure (even though actual sizes differ between brands). FWIW, 245/40-17's fit fine on 8" and 8-1/2" wide rims on the front of most, but not all, M3's. If I were in the same position as you I'd first of all consider getting two tyres that match the two you have that are in the best shape. Otherwise, I'd get four 235/40-17's to match the factory M3 lightweight setup. Martin Bullen '95 M3 '97 Z3 2.8 P.S. Anybody have four genuine staggered M-Contours for sale as a reasonable price? It weighs 35 lbs. and has plenty of power. You could swing a 925MJT which has a little less reserve power but is lighter (at 24 lbs.). This battery is comporable to the Optima batteries, but easier to install. The "M" in the MJT means it has a metal jacket. I just screwed in the metal jacket to the chasses and slid the battery into it. Good luck! One of my stock tranny mount bolts is completely missing. Replaced, tightened all the others, it still makes the noise. Stock m3 shifter is going on tomorrow. Chris

(resent and hopefully readable) Hi Pat, I was in a similar situation a year ago. I had just sold my Porsche autocross car because someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse. My wife was balking at agreeing to an M3 until I dragged her to a dealer to drive a '98 sedan. She loved it and I quickly found a suitable car to buy. She likes it, I love it, it's a great autocross car, it works great for hauling clients around when it needs to, looks fantastic in silver with forged wheels, and sounds great with a Remus exhaust. If I push the seat all the way back, I can barely reach the pedals and I'm 5'-10". I have a folding rear seat which is really nice for Home Depot runs as well as loading up the Kumhos, air tank and floor jack. I don't have any input on your other questions, but can't say enough good things about my sedan. But with a rollbar, you get no use out of your rear seat, even if you have a removeable cross-brace, i.e. with an Autopower bar for the 4- door. I'm a big guy, 5'11" 275#, and I'm keeping my stock seats. They fit well and I don't move at all with my harnesses! Dave Kelley 98 M3/4 94 325i

Date: Sun, 22 Dec 2002 22:50:37 EST From: Carguymb@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Re: Tires for '95 M3 Josh, I don't have first hand experience of either tyre, but from the folks I talked to at SEMA last year, I'd expect the ES100 Yokes and the Kumho 711/712 to be pretty comparable in terms of performance. The Yokohama rep told me that the Kumho was the target tyre for the ES100, in terms of price/performance. Tirerack's website is often fairly informative in terms of providing real world information (see the reviews). I suggested that if I were in your shoes, I'd consider matching the best two existing tyres. Let me throw out the thought here that some of what you don't like might be caused by the different characteristics of the mixed tyres. That said, all things being equal, new tyres will always feel better than old ones.
