Sometimes cars have very strange > historys. I have not taken anything apart to verify stock components (except taking the DME out to check the chip). The P.O. was the original owner. He insists the car is stock. I have no reason to doubt him as he didn't strike me as the type to heavily modify the car. Unless I am proven otherwise, I am under the assumption that I got lucky with the stock motor. Unfortunately I already have a track car (which ironically has a heavily modified engine and isn't putting out near the horsepower it should on the same dyno). I bought my M3 from a younger guy who wasn't all that mechanical and didn't do much to the car. However, one of the previous owners definately had the mod bug. I didn't find out about any of the following until I'd owned the car a few months... It has the x-brace, a short shift kit and (the real kicker) a 3.38 rear diff installed! It also had a euro hfm intake and chip setup at some point, as the dme had obviously been opened and the charcoal canister moved to where it needs to be with the euro hfm/intake. Somebody hit the "memo" button under your clock on the OBC. Notice the three little arcs in the clock display? They indicate that "memo" is on. The memo function beeps 3 times 15 seconds before the hour, to notify you that the news is about to be aired on the radio so that you can select an appropriate channel to hear the news. I believe most radio stations in europe air traffic info on the hour.. or at least general news. Maybe a judge will give you a break on the fine if you explain the circumstances. I don't see a legal defense however. From personal experience I've pegged the anger meter when "dumbass"es, (actually a combo of laziness and stupidity) stop their cars in the lane right in front of a store to wait for an emerging shopper to load all their bags into the car and vacate the spot closest to the store (instead of finding an open spot 50 feet away). All the while a line of cars is stalled for 3 minutes behind them. I don't think someone that lazy, stupid or inconsiderate gets it with just a $275 fine. I really think a more Pavlovian form of behavoir modification is necessary. All I can do is stand on the horn. I can almost judge the thickness of the skull by the number of seconds which pass. After about 45 seconds of blaring horn they usually get the idea and move. -----Original Message----- From: Jay [mailto:jlafoi49@yahoo.com] Sent: Thursday, December 19, 2002 4:26 PM To: E36M3 Subject: [E36M3] A bit OT: Disputing a handicap parking violation Date: Thu, 19 Dec 2002 16:20:00 -0800 (PST) From: Jay <jlafoi49@yahoo.com> Subject: A bit OT: Disputing a handicap parking violation Bear with me here.... Just got hit with a $275 fine for parking in a handicap spot and wanted to fight it. While waiting in a torrential rainstorm for my co-workers to load some crap into my 95 M3 (trying to stay on topic), I decide to park in a space close-by since they said they'd be out in "five minutes". Eight minutes later, a sherrif's cruiser blocks the front of my car, he comes out and says "This is a handicap spot & you don't have a placard". Then, he slaps me with a $275 citation. OK, so I was a dumbass to park there, I learned my lesson and should've been told to park elsewhere in the rush of traffic, rain and stray shopping carts. But no, not today. Now, I have to pony up almost 3 bills or write a formal appeal. So, has anyone successfully fought one of these? I don't think I have much of a chance...plus, he did snap a picture. Might as well give it a shot.... Thanks, J __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. That means that almost all '95 model year production (1994 and 1995) and all of the LTW M3's have the weaker valve retainers. Supposed only the 10/95 and 11/95 (I don't think there are any 12/95 M3's) have the hardened valve retainers. My car with H&R Sports measures about 12 1/4", with the rear tire pretty well tucked under the fender.
