#2. Track Tires & Wheels - from KResener@aol.com

Date: Sat, 4 Jan 2003 09:39:43 EST From: KResener@aol.com Subject: Track Tires & Wheels Since Santa didn't bring me the dedicated track tires and wheels that I'd asked for, it seems I'll have to get them myself. Before I do though, I'm wondering on the general consensus on how to fit them in my coupe, along with my assorted other tools for track days. One in the front seat, and three in the back seat? Two in the back seat and one in the trunk? Back seat bottom in, or out? Seat backs up, or down? Someone please save me from hours of testing and trying all possibilities! Is the conventional wisdom to get tires and wheels for the track in the same size as the street (stock) set up on my '95? Kurt

When the strut hats are swapped left<-->right they retain their standard fore/aft orientation. This is readily verified by the stamped arrows, which should point forward. If they don't, the installation was done wrong. Neil 96 M3 - Swapped hats

Date: Sat, 4 Jan 2003 11:14:14 EST From: ChuckBrazeau@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Track Tires & Wheels With my coupe's rear seats folded down, I put one wheel/tire in the spare tire well (you'll have 4 spares on the way to and from the track if needed! :-P), and then slide the other 3 in (wrapped in jumbo plastic bags). Two of them sit inside the passenger compartment (on top of the rear seat backs that are laying down) and the other one is still in the trunk. There's plenty of room left for my air tank, tools, jack, fold-up chairs, umbrella, a duffle bag for clothes (for 2 day events out of town), helmet, and my Xooter (an adult sized kick scooter that i use as my pit/paddock vehicle: http://www.xooter.com/). I still have my passenger seat vacant in case my wife or a friend wants to come along. :-) Chuck Brazeau '95 BMW M3 - Violet on Black SCCA Solo2 - B Stock #95 http://www.brazeauracing.com/ In a message dated 1/4/03 6:50:44 AM Pacific Standard Time, KResener@aol.com writes: > Date: Sat, 4 Jan 2003 09:39:43 EST > From: KResener@aol.com > Subject: Track Tires & Wheels > > > Since Santa didn't bring me the dedicated track tires and wheels that I'd > asked for, it seems I'll have to get them myself. > Before I do though, I'm wondering on the general consensus on how to fit > them > in my coupe, along with my assorted other tools for track days. > One in the front seat, and three in the back seat? I ended up getting that sucker off by bracing the pulley bolts with a screwdriver. End goal here is thermostat replacement. Draining coolant from the rear plug was real fun! -Jeff smells like coolant don't need no stinkin' special tool

#9. Driver's Ed & Allstate in PA - from Steve Lilley
Top
Date: Sat, 04 Jan 2003 15:50:03 -0500 From: Steve Lilley <m3steve@earthlink.net> Subject: Driver's Ed & Allstate in PA I just received a list of amendments to my Allstate Auto Insurance. I remember reading about this exclusion in another state, but it looks like it applies to PA as well now. Here's what Allstate sends to anyone renewing in Jan 2003: Under "Exclusions -- What is not covered" in Part 1....we have added an exclusion specifying that the policy does not provide coverage for bodily injury or property damage arising out of the participation in any prearranged, organized, or spontaneous racing or speed contest; when using the insured vehicle at a track or course designed for racing or high performance driving; or in practice or preparation for any contest or use of this type. Now I'm not a lawyer, but it now sounds like you are SOL if you are a customer of Allstate-PA and you have an "incident" at a DE. Time to reconsider American Collectors Insurance for DE coverage: http://www.americancollectorsins.com/driversed.htm Regards, Steve m3steve@earthlink.net
