#1. Exhaust header to cat connection -- stud part number? - from KLchmn@aol.com

Date: Sat, 4 Jan 2003 16:38:39 EST From: KLchmn@aol.com Subject: Exhaust header to cat connection -- stud part number? Gruppe, I'm trying to find the part number for the 6-studs that connect the exhaust header to the catalytic converter section of the exhaust. A few of them backed out when I removed the exhaust. A quick call to the dealer made me think that they misunderstood what I wanted as they quoted $26 EACH! I looked on my ETK but it only shows the European exhaust header, not the nasty cast iron one we got. The ETK showed 11 62 1 708 999 for the part for my '92 525i w/M50 motor. Perhaps that is the same one? Thanks, Kirk Lachman Sin City Chapter '95 M3 #21 I-stock

#2. FS: 1995 M3 Turbo - from Matt Henson

Date: Sat, 4 Jan 2003 13:43:51 -0800 (PST) From: Matt Henson <hensonator@yahoo.com> Subject: FS: 1995 M3 Turbo Hi Gang, We just took delivery of a 2002 330i and, unfortunatly for me, the M3 Turbo has to go. Here are the specifics: 85K Miles Red/Black AA Stage 1 Turbo, later upgraded with new intake (Euro HFM, better filter, bigger I.C pipe, etc), better software, APEXi AVC-R boost controller Rogue Engineering short shift Custom Seat covers (leather has some wear but no holes). Biltstein sport shocks Uprated sport clutch Bob Tunnel race exhaust This upgraded version of the AA turbo has been totally reliable, running at 6PSI boost. The turbo has been on for about 25K miles without a mechanical problem; the head has never been off the engine. It has had Mobil 1 used exclusively, changed every 5K miles. The car has been to a few autocrosses and one driver's ed, but in the last 2 years it's just been a daily driver due to lack of time. Last summer we drove it to CO for vacation; it gets about 25MPG on the highway and there were no problems. The car is in very good cosmetic condition, with a few small dings, etc. Overall, for a '95 it's in great shape. I have receipts for pretty much everything on the car, but I haven't added them up or my wife would kill me. I may also consider selling the turbo system and other upgrades and return the car to stock. Finally, if someone wants to trade their stock or aftermarket exhaust for the Tunnel race exhaust, we can discuss that as well. The car is in Austin, TX. Asking price is $20K, but if you're interested, make an offer. Please reply via a-mail. -Matt __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. I found my notes... one complete rotation of one tie rod will yield 46 minutes, .767 degrees, or .326" of toe change at that wheel. A more practical application is rotating each tie rod 90 degrees since it's easily repeatable and a small enough change to be helpful when switching from a track/autocross setting to street. 90 degrees at each tie rod will yield 23 minutes, .383 degrees, or .163" of total toe change. That's about 5/32nds of total toe change in or out. -- Ron Katona bill_boom wrote: > > > From: Ron Katona <rkatona@cox.net> > > Subject: Re: [E36M3] Front Camber > > > > Now... somewhere around my messy computer desk I also have > > how much toe > > change is gained for each revolution of the tie rod... > > As a ballpark, I know that one full turn of the tie rod equals right around > 1/3" of toe on that wheel.

Also, from reading the description, I wonder if this would apply to Solo II autocrossing? It's a timed event, but it's a car against a clock without any other cars on the track at the same time, unlike a DE, where more than just your car is on the track at one time. Knowing insurance companies, they'd probably exclude Solo II as well. No wonder there's street racing, hell, you can't do it on a track, trying to be safe about it, and be covered... Regards, Tom Reynolds Hereford, AZ P.S. I'm not advocating street racing, BTW, just ranting a bit, I guess. >Date: Sat, 04 Jan 2003 15:50:03 -0500 >From: Steve Lilley <m3steve@earthlink.net> >Subject: Driver's Ed & Allstate in PA > >I just received a list of amendments to my Allstate Auto Insurance. >I remember reading about this exclusion in another state, but it >looks like it applies to PA as well now. > >Here's what Allstate sends to anyone renewing in Jan 2003: > Under "Exclusions -- What is not covered" in Part 1....we have > added an exclusion specifying that the policy does not provide > coverage for bodily injury or property damage arising out of > the participation in any prearranged, organized, or spontaneous > racing or speed contest; when using the insured vehicle at a > track or course designed for racing or high performance driving; > or in practice or preparation for any contest or use of this > type. > >Now I'm not a lawyer, but it now sounds like you are SOL if you are >a customer of Allstate-PA and you have an "incident" at a DE. The factory studs are press fit studs. The replacements are nuts and bolts. I'm not sure what justifies the expensive, but these are very expensive bolts. I remember that I ordered 6 but they only had 2 in stock. When I checked the invoice, I nearly fell over and I told them to not send the rest of the 4 :) Chester --- KLchmn@aol.com wrote: > I'm trying to find the part number for the 6-studs that connect the exhaust > header to the catalytic converter section of the exhaust. Are these made of unobtanium or something other than steel? Thanks, Kirk
