Well, I thought it was weird, too, but it's definitely an Optima and it's definitely new and it's definitely Orange! :-) And describing it as a reverse-poled (top terminals only) battery is pretty close ... Here are two pics I just took: http://www.pumpkininc.com/images/other/optima-orange-top.jpg http://www.pumpkininc.com/images/other/optima-orange-above.jpg These pics will be deleted after a while, so if anyone wants them, feel free to copy them to somewhere else. The battery is in a 1984 Jaguar XJ-S V12. I bought it new in December (my guy had to order it, as I specifically asked for a top-terminals-only battery) and installed it last week. What's weird is that this Orange top is the only Optima I've ever seen with the tabs on the bottom -- dunno if this is new, a holdover, whatever. #2. Jack Points - from Dorffer, Rich

Date: Tue, 14 Jan 2003 15:29:57 -0500 From: "Dorffer, Rich" <RDORFFER@CleIndians.com> Subject: Jack Points Alright, I have given this tip before on jacking (even on lowered cars) and here goes again. First, jack up the car from the differential carrier bracket or from the differential itself (the diff and it's mounting points are stout enough on the E36 M3) and place the rear of the car on jack stands. I use Norco jack stands with custom machined aluminum adapters which mate to the jack points (Brett Anderson has the adaptors and is considering having them produced). I also have a set of AC stands which also work nicely. Now, with the rear of the car in the air, jack up the front at center of the front subframe by sliding the jack in from behind one of the front wheels. There is plenty of clearance even with lowered cars. The car couldn't be any easier to jack up and support in this method. I use this method on my E36 M3 and my E30 325is. No messing around with wood 2 bys or ramps. I can use this method with both my AC jack and my Lincoln very easily. Regards, Rich

The Optima orange top is what Ferrari is specifying in the 550 Maranello as a replacement battery. I can't remember exactly what the reason is but it had to do with its discharging rate and its ability to be unaffected by discharging because of the car sitting for such long periods. Maybe he can pipe in on this. Absolute Radiator is a distributor. Although the particular radiator about which I posted is made by PWR in Australia, Absolute Radiator also carries Fluidyne products. Well there is one particular wheel... No, really. It does fit. But that doesn't mean you should. Unless you race in the English BMW CR program where they have a spec 15" wheel/tyre. Andrew

I was told "2 months" about 1-1.5 years ago, now it is down to "1 week" when I call. They are waiting on a machine shop to deliver the bung for the water temp sender. I don't have a price on them yet, but I am guessing the Fluidyne will be more expensive at about $600 or so retail. I had planned to work up a group order for them with a nice discount, but if the new supplier is cheaper, there may not be a need. Let us know how it works on the car! I have used Fluidynes in several other cars with serious cooling problems (not a problem with the E36 usually) and they are excellent. I imagine I will buy the Fluidyne for our cars because I know they work well, but I really hadn't planned to make much on the E36 radiators so it doesn't bother me at all if the other radiator turns out to be the good alternative. I just need something that works! James http://www.bimmerworld.com 540.639.9648

#10. CD-Changer mounting hardware question - from Bob Lenarcik

Date: Tue, 14 Jan 2003 16:50:17 -0800 From: "Bob Lenarcik" <lenarcik@pacbell.net> Subject: CD-Changer mounting hardware question Does anyone happen to know the sizes of the nuts and bolt that attaches the trunk mounted CD Changer? I assume it's just std metric-sized hardware. I just bought a used changer with the installation bracket, but there was no other hardware. The dealer says that they can't sell me anything other than the entire installation kit (for $112.00!!!). Thanks in advance for any assistance. - Bob 97 M3/2
