Date: Mon, 27 Jan 2003 16:11:28 -0600 From: "Robert Exconde" <99e36m3@exconde.com> Subject: Extended Warranty. Hey all... I'm coming up on my 50K mark on my 99M3, which means that warranty is coming up on expiration. I'm wondering if I should get the extended warranty. I believe it is around $1800 or so for another 4 years/ 50K miles. I'm in the chicagoland area and I do a lot of driving so I think that I'll hit the 50K mark much sooner than the 4 years, like in 1-2 years. I dont really want to get a second car. Making the haul in the M is one of the things that makes the trek worth while! A lot of the miles are highway miles, so it fairly easy going most of the time. I know people that drive their cars a lot harder than anyone and only had a seat heater break and an O2 sensor go out, everything else was driving related. What are some of the problems I should look into, consider or am overlooking?? Lastly, Are all dealerships the same $$ for the warranty? Or should I shop online as well? I have approx. 1000miles left before warranty expires. Thanks, re

My car, a 97 M3/4, with no options, 1/3 tank of gas, no spare tire, and 17x9 SSR Integral wheels was 3080 lbs. Jim O's 96 was a good bit lighter (~100 lbs at that time), since he had removed the rear seat, and lightened a few other things. A 2001 E46 M3 (Dave Y.) with a removed rear set, no spare weighed in at about 3330 lbs. I forgot what Navid's K. car weighed. Dave's car and mine were very similar in setup, except that I had the rear seat, and he did not, and the delta was about 250 lbs. Don't know how that compares to what the specs show. Chris 97 M3/4 Hopefully a little lighter in 2003

The diff is some 20-25 lbs more and the tranny adds another 10-20. Don't know about the difference in engine weight. Of course the E46M3 has the big diff, 6 speed tranny, and more complex intake like the Euro E36M3... Does the E46M3 have an alloy or aluminum block? Or is it steel like the Euro E36M3? Scott

My ex 1995 M3 (4/95) with 1/4 tank of gas, sunroof, heated seats, cruise control, and showroom stock except for Bilstein struts was 3170 lbs at the 2000 Lemoore Pro Solo. With no spare and Hoosier 245/40-17 A3S03's it was 3105 lbs at the same event. My current co-driver's ex 1999 M Coupe with 1/4 tank of gas, sunroof, and showroom stock was 2994 lbs. My guess for a zero option E46 M3 is about 3350 pounds. I will know what a lightly optioned E46 M3 weighs in about six weeks, but my guess is 3400+ pounds. If that is true, then that makes an E46 M3 about 300 pounds heavier than an E36 M3 in SCCA Solo II Stock class trim. -- Rex Tener rex_tener@yahoo.com

It is the Tarheel Chapter school headquarters - we have a group rate with them of $68 - mention the Tarheel Chapter BMW CCA - you'll need to hurry. The cookies are good! There is also a Hampton Inn just across the street - it is fine as well. The Howard Johnson's that James mentions has a great restaurant (believe it or not) called the Gas Light (or something to that effect). Last time I was there they had a banner up that indicated the hotel would be under a different name this year - maybe a Comfort Inn? Hojo is good also. Not many rat traps there...

One interesting thing at the Holiday Inn is that some of the first floor rooms have their exterior entrances (in addition to the interior entrance). #7. 99 M3 Spare Wheel Size? - from Mark Kern
Top
Date: Mon, 27 Jan 2003 21:12:35 -0800 From: "Mark Kern" <markkern@cox.net> Subject: 99 M3 Spare Wheel Size? Does anyone know the size of the 99 M3 spare? The 99 uses a staggered wheel size (7.5 in front, 8.5 in rear). Awhile ago, I put the spare wheel on the front right of the car. I'm worried that I put an 8.5 on the front right, and still have the 7.5 on the front left (driver's side). I'm wondering if this is why I'm getting steering wheel shake while breaking... Anybody know the size, or where it is stamped on the wheel so I can check it? - Mark

The rim is stamped on the inside. It will say something like 7.5J-17 ET 41 Lowell Seaton '95 M3 - same size wheels/tires all around Dallas, Texas

Something about suggesting that E36 Sedan owners were all overweight, and half-baked and that sedans ONLY came with Automatic slushboxes. Mel '97 M3/4 (with 3 pedals, not two) -----Original Message----- I agree with Rich on this one, that piece was actually quite bad compared to some of the other buyers guides they have done in the past. Some of the others have been spot on, I felt like this one was not very good at all. Mike -----Original Message----- From: Dorffer, Rich [mailto:RDORFFER@CleIndians.com] Further to your point, the E36 buyers guide was filled with factual mistakes and inaccuracies and poor editing. I don't believe Matt was the source of these mistakes though.

Date: Mon, 27 Jan 2003 23:21:40 -0800 From: Scott M <smlists@pacbell.net> Subject: Inspection II - done I just completed the Inspection II service. It was quite easy to do and a real joy compared to many of the American and Japanese car's I've owned in the past. Those Germans made these cars quite reasonable to service. Also completed what a brake flush / bleed since I'm not sure if it was done at 2 years old and the car is now 4 years old anyhoo. Did a clutch bleed too, now the clutch seems to engage closer to the floor which is interesting - might take awhile to adjust my driving style now!! Thanks to everyone on this list who helped me with answers when I needed them - this place is a great source of info about these great cars. Scott '98 M3/4 - 5-spd
