I have Koni DA front and rear. For the front, $240 is a steal. I would not go without it. I run compression settings on the front that are bone jarring on the street, and the autox performance is very good. I just set the compression at full soft to drive home. For the rear, I think the additional $428 is worth it. I think the front helps more, but the rear helps. How fast do you want to go? ;-) Chris 97 M3/4 > Sorry to bother you the list and GC M3 guys again with this, but I wanted to see if anyone had any final comments for my last questions. I am very close to ordering a Ground Control "Coilover" Suspension with the hybrid camber plates and GC RSMs. I have the following questions: > > - Would you pay an additional $240 for the Double Adjustable Konis in the FRONT, or, do you feel the DA Konis for an additional $240 was worth it if you have them? > > - Would you pay an additional $428 for the Double Adjustable Konis in the REAR, or, do you feel the DA Konis for an additional $428 was worth it if you have them?

All engine and exhaust components are stock. However I did plan to upgrade in the future. My question is, will I have to purchase a new chip when I upgrade to a new exhaust, Intake and so on? Thanks in advance W. Wallace

If you add cams, larger injectors, etc., they you will need a new chip for those. Chris ----- Original Message ----- > Date: Tue, 4 Feb 2003 21:16:28 -0500 > From: "William T. I have the G/C setup and chose to upgrade to the D/A's. IMO, it was worth the money. I drove a friend's car with nearly identical setup w/ s/a and the added bump of the D/A's make the turn-in and corner entry better. I also played with the bump at the last track event and increasing bump(up to a point) made the car work much better. With the bump set too low, the car would feel a bit vague upon turn-in and didn't set very well. Increasing the bump made it more predictable and easier to enter corners faster while feeling comfortable. However, at the bump settings I ended up at, the ride was terrible. But, with D/A's, you can dial it back for the drive home. :-) > - Would you pay an additional $428 for the Double Adjustable Konis in the REAR, or, do you feel the DA Konis for an additional $428 was worth it if you have them? I didn't do this so I can't comment on it. Hope this helps. Bill

#5. AVSi vs AVS Es100 - from Chris Conner

I enjoyed the AVSi in the dry, they were horrible when it rained. I paid $110 each. I am completely smitten with the ES100s. They are extremely predictable, and can easily handle wet weather to the point that I do not have to change my driving style much when it is damp out. As far as wear characteristics, it's too early to tell. The only thing I've noticed is a significant wear bias to the rear, which I think is a design flaw with the driver (me!) :-) I have had extensive experience with Bridgestone Potenza RE730 (over 40k miles on multiple sets), Potenza SO3 (10k), Continental ContiSportContact (4k wow, they sucked), AVSi (5k) and AVS ES100 (5k so far). At the time of the RE730, they were absolutely the best price/performance tire on the market, in my opinion. Now, the ES100 takes their place. >And for those of you who complain >about getting only 18k from a set of tires, you drive an M3, not a Camry. Go >buy tires from sears with a 60k warranty if that really is what you want. I can't agree more. I wish I got 18k from a set of tires! But a Camry, Alex? That's just harsh. They should go buy an e46 ;) Chris

Date: Tue, 4 Feb 2003 20:11:26 -0800 (PST) From: DocWyte <josh_wyte@yahoo.com> Subject: Another update on my M Well, got the call from the dealer that the M was done. ('95 M, had loss of power and ticking from front of motor) Excited to get rid of the Dodge POS they gave me, I drove the 75 miles up to the dealer and picked the car up. Within 2 miles I knew the problem was still there. Returned to the car to the dealer, unfortunately all the techs and my service rep were gone (they weren't there when I picked the car up), so I got my check back and the dodge POS. All 6 coils were replaced. Ticking and lose of power still there. Suggestions? I'm thinking vanos... -josh ===== Josh Wyte Momentum Motorsports 508-833-3024 After 5 pm EST __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. It is great in the shop and the materials were only around $300 (mostly tubing). I use the boiler in my basement, a zone valve and circulation pump specific to the shop. I highly recommend it. It is installed before you pour the slab so if you've already poured the slab it might be a little late. I also built with 2X6 studs for greater R-value insulation and high ceilings (13 1/2 feet) to allow for a lift (actually two). If you can do the radiant floor and want to do a lift make sure you allow room for the footprint of the lift(s) or you will risk puncturing a tube when you lag the lift down. I also installed 10X10 doors with high lift rails and yadda yadda. Email off line if you want more info Perry Genova #202 Skidmark Racing 1970 2002 1997 M3/4

Date: Wed, 5 Feb 2003 09:20:04 -0500 From: "Chip Mitchell" <chipm@arches.uga.edu> Subject: Re: Tire choices Alex, I have to total opposite opinion on tires in general. For a variety of reasons (and I won't preach to the board) I don’t go around pushing my car to the limits down the local main street. I've had nice tires, and I've had cheap tires. The truth is, on the street, they are all round and black and grip the road with more than enough sticky stuff to get you into trouble. Once you get into "testing the limits" of the car, that’s what controlled environments and track tires are for - in any other situation (including most beginner DE use) there is not a lot of reason from my point of view to pay twice as much for tires. YMMV, ChipM ----- Either way, the way I look at it is don't skimp on the tires. Spend what you need to. THIS is your connection to the road. THIS is what your car depends on when you throw it into a corner and push it that much harder. THIS is what you need to help you be safer. Don't go for cheaper tires hoping they perform like the ones at twice the price. And for those of you who complain about getting only 18k from a set of tires, you drive an M3, not a Camry. Go buy tires from sears with a 60k warranty if that really is what you want. My $.02 Alex "HyperM3" Demsky 97 S/C M3 -----
