Yes, it does work for mine (7/95), I ASSumed that it would work for all. Guess we know what that's worth. Regards Jamie Howton

#3. Fan noise - from K.C. Boyce

Date: Tue, 11 Feb 2003 17:15:40 -0500 From: "K.C. Boyce" <kcb@abcgroup-inc.com> Subject: Fan noise Gruppe, My HVAC fan has started squeaking continuously. It still blows (hah!), but makes a gawd-awful racket at standstill. Interestingly enough, acceleration ameliorates the noise. So my solution thus far is like my solution to the 65-70 mph vibration: just drive under constant acceleration! Any solutions short of taking the fan out and lubing it/replacing it? Would the CPO warranty cover this procedure? TIA, KC Boyce '97 M3 Crew Cab

The CCA ones I have been to emphasize safety and learning in a controlled environment. You will only learn as much as you put into it. Also, you only risk your vehicle to the extent you overdrive beyond your abilities. So, drive within your ability and it should be safe, or put another way, no more risky than driving on the highways and byways of life where all factors can't be controlled. As far as blowing your motor...don't worry about it. Instead, worry about proper shifting techniques and be sure your car is properly maintained. Your risk is low in this case too. BMW CCA schools are the best "bang for the buck"....no pun intended. Regards, Rich - hope to do at least three DE events this year or more.

Date: Tue, 11 Feb 2003 17:24:16 EST From: RacerxJLing@aol.com Subject: CCA or Private driver's school THANKS for all the quick replies/advice!! Does the damage waiver at a rental car company cover a DE/track event?? TIA Jeff Most BMW club schools don't require that you drive a BMW, you can drive most anything except a convertible (I don't recommend taking a SUV or a minivan though). So getting creative... ...go to Hertz & rent a rear-wheel drive car like a Mustang. Bonus is that you use up their rubber at driving school. Back when Hertz had RWD Ford Thunderbirds, that was the ticket for driving schools where the participant flew in (like an Ocktoberfest). For the "D" run group, you don't need much HP, but good brakes can be a bonus. Don't forget to buy the Collision Damage Waiver! - Skip >>

So getting creative... I'm pretty sure they won't accept vans and trucks, actually. I know that probably dashed a lot of people's hopes right there, but you can't have everything... > ...go to Hertz & rent a rear-wheel drive car like a Mustang. > Bonus is that you use up their rubber at driving school. Not a bad car at all, although the tires had to be rotated after the first day as they were pretty much completely cone shaped. I think there are clauses about tracking rental cars both at typical driving schools and possibly in the rental agreement. Could be difficult to get it teched before the school, as well. Still, cheap. For the person interested in tracking his own car, I agree that a BMW CCA event would be good. Porsche events are also often good, and will let you in with a BMW CCA membership card, typically. With most of the marque schools that I am aware of, even if you need the membership, you probably don't need the car -- there were Porsches (lots), BMWs (some) and Z's, miatas, f-bodies, etc, at a PCA school I was at recently. The Tarheel Sports Car Club puts on some schools at VIR, and they are open to all and run in the same style as the BMW CCA schools. Check out http://www.trackschedule.com/ for pretty much all the schools in the east. Tracking your car is pretty tough on it, things can and do break, and accidents can happen. However, if your car is in good shape going in, it will likely do fine. You will probably want to check that your insurance covers you in the not incredibly likely event of an emergency. It's a ton of fun -- not to be missed if you're an M3 driver. If you disagree, you can let me know by mailing me the keys and title of yours.. Zach

You will be more comfortable in the car and should learn a lot more. If you are thinking about damage to your car, you are already on the right track and way ahead of where I was when I started. It's not like if you rent a car, you can drive without worrying about wrecking it - I would rather worry about wrecking my car and not than not worry about wrecking a rental piece and end up paying for it. Anyway, too much talk about damage. Listen to your instructor. Work up to your personal limits (and theirs) gradually. With the right attitude this isn't even an issue 99.44% of the time. The problems come when you have a student that doesn't listen or won't trust what you tell them. Engine damage is mostly a non-issue also. My students don't even shift gears until they have the line and are comfortable on the track at speed. This isn't a trial by fire, you will work into it gradually. If you're not experiencing any driveability issues, give your baby a good week to see if the light clears itself. I've experienced this before, and after 5 or so days the light has gone off. In fact, my CE light is currently on (the second time in the past 2 mths). In my case, if it's emissions related (which I don't know), the CE light might be tripped a particular brand of gas, by reformulated gas that's available in the Chicago area during winter months, or a O2 sensor on it's way out. #9. non BMWs at CCA driver schools - from John Pease

A BMW is not required for Golden Gate chapter driving schools. BUT on the registration form, they state that PRIORITY will be given to BMWs. I wanted to sign up for a school but am put off by this statement. I worry that I will sign up early only to be wait-listed and possibly allowed (or not allowed) in only at the last minute because I don't bring a BMW. It is very hard for me to see how I can guarantee getting into drivers school without a BMW even if I sign up early. Does anyone have any experience with the GGC and non-BMWs at driving schools?
