Maybe even replace it, they're pretty cheap, under $100. Much better than having to replace all of them as well as the dme like I had to. -josh --- "Dames, Mark" <Mark.Dames@PDO.Co.Santa-Clara.CA.US> wrote: > Date: Thu, 13 Feb 2003 15:06:56 -0800 > From: "Dames, Mark" > <Mark.Dames@PDO.Co.Santa-Clara.CA.US> > Subject: RE: [E36M3] My Car is Talking To Me > > Just did the Peake tool thing (Thanks to Zack S.) > and it reports an "F3" > which apparently translates to "misfire cylinder 6". > The check engine light has been off for a couple of > days now and the car > appears to be running fine, no perceptible miss that > I can tell. > Is there further suggested diagnostics and/or > preemptive work to do from > here? > Could this be the start of the cascading coil/DME > failure we have recently > heard tale of? > Car has 80K on the clock. > Suggestions? > > mark > 98 M3/4 > > -----Original Message----- > From: Chris Teague [mailto:cteague@cox.net] > Sent: Monday, February 10, 2003 7:59 PM > To: E36M3 > Subject: Re: [E36M3] My Car is Talking To Me > > > Date: Mon, 10 Feb 2003 19:58:54 -0800 > From: "Chris Teague" <cteague@cox.net> > Subject: Re: [E36M3] My Car is Talking To Me > > Mark, > > You need a fault code reader, like the one peake > research sells. Unless it happens again, I wouldn't worry about it. I've had 2 or 3 mis-fires on the M3, none in the last year or so though. Since the CE light went out on its own, that means that the mis-fire didn't reoccur and was a one-time "hiccup". As long as the car idles & drives fine, you should be OK. Jim Bassett

The same policy is in place for Puget Sound Region (PSR) schools. We used to get a variety of cars but now it's all BMW's except a couple instructor cars. I enjoy the variety of cars as well. While there are some other opportunities for schools I think the BMW CCA schools are the best organized, instructed and safest run. I'd be interested in seeing some percentage of openings reserved for non-BMW's. From jobless to holy sh*t, this might be a good thing, a recent turn of events has me potentially long-term in East Hanover, NJ. Since I'm Jersey stupid, I wouldn't even know where to look in terms of possibly acquiring a place. Good neigborhoods, best place for low traffic commute, etc. Any private advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chester =====

Date: Fri, 14 Feb 2003 01:27:05 EST From: LoweSeaton@aol.com Subject: Re: [E36M3] Service II and steering questions Luis, Good for you! You can do all of the Inspection/Service procedures yourself if you don't mind spending some time. The one exception is replacing the fuel filter on early production 1995 M3's. I helped a friend replace his fuel filter once. Never again. But don't worry. Your M3 is way after the switch. Your fuel filter will be about 10 inches long and 2 inches in diameter. It is located on the underside of the car below the driver's door. Very easy to change. Part # for the microfilter: 64 11 9 069 895 I'm embarrassed to admit that I purchased 2 microfilters over 5 years ago for my 9/95 M3. I have yet to replace the original filter. I have to run my blower on 3 or 4 to get much air flow. I'm afraid to see what it looks like. Brett Anderson has a trick procedure for replacing it. I can't personally vouch for its ease of use since I've never changed my own filter. :-) http://www.koalamotorsport.com/ Click on complimentary repairs, then click on 3 series E36, then click on microfilter. Spark plug? You've got a '95 3.0L M3. I'd use the stock Bosch plug - F7LDCR. It's two prongs - about $6. The '96+ 3.2L M3 uses a four prong Bosch FGR8KQC plug. It is $13 each. Forget OBD-II vs. OBD-I, I'm glad I've got a '95 M3 simply because it doesn't cost me $80 for spark plugs! I don't have any idea on the loose steering column. Sorry. But if you can find any loose bolts, I'd definitely tighten them up. Good luck! Second as cost of running track events rises and more and more clubs are doing events there is almost a competition between the clubs for track dates. I can think of a few events we did that we lost money. Although we are a Not for Profit we would still like to brake even. With this said sign up early to insure you get a space. I personally love it when other makes come out the track. nothing better than getting a point by from a Porshce or a Ferrari. Brian Jacobs 97 ///M3 I live in Florida so I can play all year around!

#8. Drei Bond 1209 or RTV - from Jamie Howton

Date: Fri, 14 Feb 2003 08:11:36 -0600 From: "Jamie Howton" <jhowton@fotofab.com> Subject: Drei Bond 1209 or RTV I am planning on replacing my leaking valve cover gasket within the next few weeks (S50US). I have the gasket set which includes the spark plug hole gaskets but TIS calls out the use of Drei Bond 1209 as a sealant for several of the surfaces. Can I use plain old RTV sealant in place of the Drei Bond or do I really need to go to the dealer and get the factory approved magic elixir? Date: Fri, 14 Feb 2003 08:37:39 -0600 From: "Michael Michalski" <mmichalski@leaselink.com> Subject: Anyone from Sacramento out there? Good Morning Guys, Have a question which is way off topic, however, I really value the opinions and advice of this esteemed group. Recently the company I work for has made me a job offer to move to Sacramento CA. I am very unfamiliar with the area and I was wondering if there was any one on this list that is from this area that could give me some information on it. How's the weather in December? Is there anything to do in Sacramento itself or would I have to drive to S.F. and Tahoe? I don't know anyone in the area at all and would be making the move alone (the present girlfriend does not want to move away from her family). I would be moving from Chicago and look forward to being able to drive the M3 year round :) Michael M3 /4
