My concern is, that it looks like there is wiring impregnated around the edge of the windshield which I assume is either the aerial for the radio or maybe a electric defroster enhancement/heater. If this is true, will aftermarket windshields contain the same component, and same quality? How critical/difficult a task is the electrical connection during installation? TIA, mark.

So far, it's holding up just as well as the original did. Diamond Auto Glass did it. - Chris

I remember getting my left front rotor off was EXTREMELY frustrating. I received all of the above advice, and it sounds like the trick of loosening the lug bolts and nailing the brakes is the surest way to break the corrosion. Still, it somehow seems a little iffy to me. Anyway, I just wanted to add one piece of advice, which is that if you go the BFH route, make it a BF dead blow H. A 3lb dead blow made short work of my rotor once I decided that it was either it or me and started hitting really hard. After that I thought I'd be home free, but the other snag I hit was getting the caliper holder off. I had to turn the steering wheel and put a gigantic breaker bar on the bolts to get them loose, in the front, and I'm worried about the rears, which are a soon upcoming project. Any thoughts on how to get the rear caliper holders off since you can't turn the wheel to fit a breaker bar? Thanks, Zach

#5. Loss of power/misfire - no CEL - from Mel Myers

Date: Tue, 18 Feb 2003 21:25:23 -0500 From: Mel Myers <melmyers76@netscape.net> Subject: Loss of power/misfire - no CEL Guys and gals, This is a question I am trying to answer for my father. He needs help! (okay, that's another topic for another day...) He has signed up for the VIR school this coming weekend and is having major (major for a track weekend) engine problems. Car: 1998 M3 4-door 5-spd, 35k miles Related Modifications: Autothority intake and custom software ( 8+ months old) Symptoms: Car idles fine. Stumbles upon acceleration, seems like misfire. He describes it as if the 'points are bad'. 'Check Engine Control/Electronics' light flashes during the symptom. The 'Check Engine Light' never comes on, and has not come on yet. All other operations of the car are fine. Details: Symptoms started on Sunday, and have gotten progressively worse yesterday and today. This is not his daily driver, so the symptoms seem to be getting worse rather quickly. He does not have a engine code reader. All possible causes I can think of would throw a CEL. Misfire, bad spark plug, CPS, TPS, bad coil pack, O2 sensor, MAF, bad gas, ect.... I have told him to try to take it in for service tomorrow, but I just want to see if anyone else out there has experienced these same issues. Yes, I did get him to confirm it was NOT the ASC kicking in! ;-). And before anyone says it's the Autothority software, I want to make it clear that my old H-stocker holds multiple track records on that product. I had a melted coil pack, which in turn fried the dme. If his car is under warranty and the dealer is NOT mod friendly, definately have him pull the aftermarket stuff before taking it in... -josh --- Mel Myers <melmyers76@netscape.net> wrote: > Date: Tue, 18 Feb 2003 21:25:23 -0500 > From: Mel Myers <melmyers76@netscape.net> > Subject: Loss of power/misfire - no CEL > > Guys and gals, > > This is a question I am trying to answer for my > father. Yes, but I think it may be a rear Koni DA too. Figured I would replace the rear sway bar end links as they probably need it anyway. If the clicking is still there, then it is on to the shock... #10. Cracked Windshield - from Junaidi Irwan

Date: Wed, 19 Feb 2003 10:36:15 -0800 (PST) From: Junaidi Irwan <cuwei@yahoo.com> Subject: Cracked Windshield This morning I was driving on the highway to work. Suddenly there is this big truck pulling in front of me and next thing I know, some rocks hit and cracked the windshield of my M3. Good thing is that my insurance cover windshield replacement with 0 deductible. My question is: Has anyone ever used SAFELITE to replace your car's windshields? They told me that they will use OEM glass but I am wondering how good of a job they will do. Another comparable company is Mike's Auto Glass in Massachusetts. Thanks a lot!
