Date: Fri, 21 Feb 2003 09:52:16 -0800 (PST) From: Hunt Hodgetts <hhodgetts@yahoo.com> Subject: Luxury Package question I recently purchased a 97 M3 and discovered that it has the "Luxury Package". However, I'm confused about exactly what the "Luxury Package" includes. I thought It was power seats and wood dash but I've seen other M3's that definitely were not "Luxury Package" cars that did have those options. Is there any definitive or unique feature that makes an M3 "Luxury Package"? I asked Global Imports BMW this question and they didn't have a clue... ===== Hunt Hodgetts (404) 644-6020 Wholesale Auto Broker Atlanta, GA __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Some minor maintenance and mounting new tires (dropped shipped from Tire Rack). I recommend them, but maybe someone has more recent experience. And, except for the tires, most of what you outline can be done DIY-wise. I'd be happy to help you with it, if you like. I done all of that work on the M3 and 325is. I have lots of free time right now (another damn layoff :-( ), and work cheap :-) Anyhoo, hope that helps, Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 1993 325is #44 A5/JP

I use 10mm spacers from Ultimate Garage on my 17x8 SSR GT1's. The spacers have the 45 degree angle you're talking about, but they fit perfectly flush on an identical 45 degree angle on the inside of my wheels. It's interesting that apparently there are wheels that don't have that angled surface. - Bill

I believe the "luxury package" included head rests for the back seats. I could be wrong though :) Michael Michalski 97 ///M3 Sedan Windy City Chapter

Well a few weeks ago my original (June 96 car purchase) battery finally died. With over six and a half years life I can't complain. I bought the Interstate at a local Firestone Tire store for $75 plus tax. I did my own installation. They did have to order it, but it came the next day. The new battery is sealed, so the vent tube isn't needed. The Interstate is also shorter, but the battery tray has an alternate hole for the hold-down bolt that works perfectly. No muss, no fuss, good price. Oh, and don't forget to have your radio security code available for afterwards. Neil 96 M3

I've used that shop exclusively since I bought my 95 M3 a couple years ago. I did a fair amount of research on good shops at the time (no warranty makes it a bit of a priority) and discovered Bavarian Professionals. They are simply phenomenal. Top notch service, excellent work, and prices that'll *easily* beat out any dealer. Often when I'm there, I'll meet people from all over the Bay Area (San Jose, Napa, San Francisco, I even drive in from Martinez) because the shop is just "that good". They stand by their work, and it shows. Jake 95 M3 > Need a ton of work done on my '95 M3 Lux (110k miles), > and I'm not much of a diy'er. Geof, I've had OE Behr, aftermarket Behr and L&R side by side and could not tell them apart. The aftermarket Behr went on my M3 while the L&R is cooling her 328i. No experience with Nissens. If the hubcenteric centering ring use doesn't sit deep enough, or doesn't have the 45 deg chamfer on it, most 10mm hubcentric spacers won't work. If the centering rings are large enough (on the OD) to accomodate a chamfer on the ID, you're set. Unfortunately, some of the centering rings on the SSR Comps are so thin that they cannot accomodate the chamfered ID. HTH. Those are individual options as well. Other items in the Package that I can recall are the front bumper cover having horizontal slats rather than the mess, and no black lower lip. I also think Contour wheels were part of the Lux Package - those were "no-cost" options later. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Jim Bassett 1998 M3/4 - non-lux with power seats and Contours 1993 325is #44 A5/JP - definitely non-lux :-)
