I had tried only two types of aftermarket wheels with my 10's - my current 17x9 SSR Integrals and another type (weren't mine and I forget what they were, at a track event in the paddock). Bad assumption on my part - guess my wheels are probably in the minority, those that can't use beveled 10mm spacers. Still not a bad thing to check when fitting spacers, as they do appear to bolt on correctly, but they won't torque and are horribly out of balance. Could be very dangerous if someone threw them on and went out to the track. Thanks everyone, good to know my 10mm spacers may not be fancy paperweights after all... I use 10mm spacers from Ultimate Garage on my 17x8 SSR GT1's. The spacers have the 45 degree angle you're talking about, but they fit perfectly flush on an identical 45 degree angle on the inside of my wheels. It's interesting that apparently there are wheels that don't have that angled surface. - Bill

Big ol' heavy sucka. I like it but got a rob knob III. Ron Stygar bent short shift lever. $50. (not 100% sure I have this, I gotta take a look this weekend... it's an Mroadster lever that Stygar bends) TSW Trophy 17x8 wheels. have corded G-force R1s on them. Make me an offer. Here is goes: Leather quality is better (dont know the brand). No vader seats, just regular Sport Type seats found in regular 3 series with power adjustments. Front mesh grill is different with no lip (BMW calls it M Technic spoiler) Side rocker panels are different (again M Technic). They dont have the curve like the rest of the M3s. Wooden trim all across (the gear box wood trim costs $500 to replace ;) Leather trim on the door sides with stitches. Chrome door handles (inside). M Contour wheels standard All the options (eg suroof, OBC, Cruise etc). Seats did not have M stripes and no my 97 didnt have the rear head rests either. Its almost 160 pounds heavier than a regular M3. 1997 was the last year of that option. I've used that shop exclusively since I bought my 95 M3 a couple years ago. I did a fair amount of research on good shops at the time (no warranty makes it a bit of a priority) and discovered Bavarian Professionals. They are simply phenomenal. Top notch service, excellent work, and prices that'll *easily* beat out any dealer. Often when I'm there, I'll meet people from all over the Bay Area (San Jose, Napa, San Francisco, I even drive in from Martinez) because the shop is just "that good". I think rear headrests were also a 98? addition but not a Lux addition. Someone could easily swap the Lux/Sport variations though. I purchased an OEM battery from the dealer last year. My old battery has vent caps to add water, but the new battery is maintenance free and still has a hookup for the vent tube. I paid around $100. #11. RTABs, etc Trivia - from Ron Buchalski
Top
Date: Fri, 21 Feb 2003 16:05:36 -0500 From: "Ron Buchalski" <rbuchals@hotmail.com> Subject: RTABs, etc Trivia I spent some time scanning the ETK, comparing part numbers for the Rear Trailing Arm Bushing (RTAB), as well as the mounts that attach the upper and lower wishbones to the rear trailing arms. I found some interesting info. Some of this information has been posted on the list in the past, but I wanted to put it all together in one message. What I found was the following: Non-M E36s and the '95 M3 use the following: 33 32 1 097 009 (RTAB) 33 32 1 138 722* (ball joint, attaches upper wishbone to trailing arm) 33 32 1 140 345 33 32 1 136 311 (rubber mount, attaches lower wishbone to trailing arm) The '96+ M3 uses the following: 33 32 2 228 153 (RTAB) 33 32 1 138 722* (ball joint, attaches upper wishbone to trailing arm) 33 32 1 140 345 33 32 1 138 722* (ball joint, attaches lower wishbone to trailing arm) 33 32 1 140 345 * (The 33 32 1 138 722 has been superceded by 33 32 1 140 345) It has been mentioned here in the past that the ball joint can be used in place of the rubber mount on non-M E36s and the '95 M3, and it's probably a good thing to do. What I found interesting is that, on the E46, BMW has done a similar thing. On the non-M E46: 33 32 1 097 009 (RTAB) 33 32 1 138 722* (ball joint, attaches upper wishbone to trailing arm) 33 32 1 140 345 33 32 1 136 311 (rubber mount, attaches lower wishbone to trailing arm) While on the E46 M3: 33 32 2 228 153 (RTAB) 33 32 1 138 722* (ball joint, attaches upper wishbone to trailing arm) 33 32 1 140 345 33 32 1 138 722* (ball joint, attaches lower wishbone to trailing arm) 33 32 1 140 345 Hopefully, someone will find this information useful. It also shows that BMW tries to minimize what's in the parts bin!
