The first time I brought my car there, they forgot to put on the oil cap, which resulted in the oil pressure light going off. Second incident was when I had them install my x-brace out of convenience during an alignment, and the service tech hammered in the AVk nutserts rather than using an expendable tool. Due to the improper installation, I am now stuck with clicking noises under load. Even my alignment was out of whack, which they claimed it was due to my rear trailing arm bracket. Took the car for an alignment at a different shop and all was well. Am I just the unlucky one or am I missing something here. Good luck. I've had this problem on and off since I bought the car, always in the colder months. FWIW, here's the history. With stock chip: did it often in cold weather. With Conforti chip (for intake, HFM): never did it. With Conforti chip (for intake, HFM, 24# injectors): never did it, but the car pinged badly. With AA custom chip (for intake, HFM, 21.5# injectors, 3.2 headers): did it occasionally in cold weather. Added new gas cap to above set-up (current): stopped immediately but now does it very occasionally in cold weather. My theory: an old gas cap loses its seal when the rubber gets cold, causing a vacuum leak. It's worth a try anyway. A new gas cap is $4.00, or thereabouts. Bought my car in Florida in May of last year and it never did it. Put in Conforti chip, airbox, HFM, big throttle body, still never did it. In the last 2 months I've driven the car maybe three times here in snowy and cold Maryland, runs really strong, but is now idle searching... Ed's right. I don't think there's any such thing as a truly *sealed* conventional (i.e. excluding special construction batteries such as the Optima) lead-acid battery. There needs to be some kind of mechanism for pressure relief, even if it's not as obvious as a vent tube. When I installed my new battery I also put one of those acid-neutralizing pads (Griot's Garage) under it, just in case. I plan to keep this car a long time, and the battery tray isn't a place I think to check too often. Even maintenance-free batteries may benefit from an occasional top-up with distilled water, although with the battery in the trunk rather than in the hot engine compartment that will rarely be the case with our cars. Mine needed a little water only once, after some six years. Talking of battery venting, back in the 70s I had a big old Chevrolet company car. One very cold winter day I tried to start it, and the battery just exploded in the engine compartment, spraying acid everywhere. When I opened the hood to see what had happened I found just the shattered shell of the battery casing. Glad I wasn't jump-starting it... Neil 96 M3

It fits perfectly. Just make sure to ask for the vent kit. Jeez, Mo! Did that price include the K-Y jelly? <vbg> I only paid $75 for my MTP-91. BTW, for anyone else contemplating this battery, don't get confused and buy the MT-91. The extra letter 'P' indicates the reversed position of the positive terminal, necessary for our cars. The leather credit I remember was when BMW ran out of seat covers with the three-strip M logo toward the end of the E36 M3 production run. Here's my secret to long-lasting BMW leather: only buy black! All the light colours tend to show early surface wear, and although there are methods for refinishing it, you'll never make it look new. But with black you can re-dye any cracks or minor wear areas using simple shoe care products. Cheap and effective! Neil - Mr. Kiwi shoe polish 96 M3

See the following for a picture. http://home.attbi.com/~gfmiii/forsale/80-88_Temp_Switch.jpg In any case, I am looking for the correct fan switch for my car which is BMW part #61 31 8 361 787 which has the thicker connecting pins.
