#1. front suspension noise - from John B
Top
Date: Thu, 3 Apr 2003 11:11:21 -0800 (PST) From: John B <john0990@yahoo.com> Subject: front suspension noise Doug/Kris, 1) Check front swaybar: make sure the front suspension is loaded (tires resting on ramps) and shake each side of the front sway bar really hard; I have found that sometimes the front sway is loose even though it appears tight when the suspension is unloaded. 2) Check front swaybar links: I know you already checked these, but these are a common culprit of front noise, especially under uneven bump situations 3) Put that sticky brake goo on the backs of your front brake pads, where they touch the caliper. Your pads may be rattling a little within the caliper. I had some rattles in the rear I spent hours diagnosing, and this turned out to be the fix. 4) Check control arms/bushings; I had a friend with a problem similar to yours, and it turned out to be a bad control arm bushing. Hope these suggestions help . . . let us know how it turns out. John '95 M3 __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! My car will not pass the VET test because of high CO2 (too much timing I believe). The only mods to the car is an air filter and a Turner Motor sports Racing chip installed by the previous owner, who threw away the stock chip. The car is in perfect shape according to an experienced BMW mechanic. Thank you for any assistance!

#9. Socket Comparison - from Wayne Miller
Top
Date: Fri, 4 Apr 2003 14:23:46 -0500 From: "Wayne Miller" <m3@waynemiller.com> Subject: Socket Comparison The other day I posted about a new protective impact socket (from GP Socket) that I bought and here are some pictures that compare some of the choices out there. I had Harold bring over his set of Griots sockets and I purchased the $10 set from Harbor Freight so you can see all of them together. Harbor Freight ($10) vs. Griots ($36.95) sets http://www.weeklysale.net/sockets/compare1.jpg Top view of Harbor Freight, Griots and GP Socket http://www.weeklysale.net/sockets/compare2.jpg Side view of Harbor Freight, Griots and GP Socket http://www.weeklysale.net/sockets/compare3.jpg The Griots ones are the only ones where the outside sleeve can move independently of the metal. The GP Socket has a noticeably thinner coating and is the only one that fits in my SSR Comps. The Harbor Freight ones are a great deal (if you are planning on ordering more than $50 from them and don't mind their extra "shipping and handling charge") but don't fit. The coating is also not quite as thick as it looks in the picture because it wraps around the end of the metal at the front. I still haven't asked Suzy about a group purchase but I will over the weekend. -Wayne

I might also be willing to trade a set of 18x8" Forgeline front wheels if that would help. Thanks, Rob Birkhead MPACT Motorsports
