I drive #330 to the races, prep it, and race... After that I drive home. I still have AC, parking brake, power windows and locks as it's just easier to keep them. I have a custom cage but I would gut the driver door and add Nascar style door bars there for additional safety (they would be further from me than the "x" I have there now) if I didn't drive it. It's a bit of work to do but were I using an enclosed trailer I would do it for sure. I race as hard as I safely can but have not prepared the car nearly to the limits of the class it's in. I run a stock 3.15 diff and stock cams and I think I am well over the weight limit for the class. It's a god damned blast to race though and there is usually someone about the same speed to race with even if they are not in my class... All you need is someone with lap times that are very similar and your having fun provided your near each other on the track. :) Also, in BMW CCA Club Racing the Prepared class has to keep the all stock window glass I think. In addition you have to keep the inside door panels except if the cage interferes with them which my cage does on both sides (there isn't much extra room in an E36). Curiosity has gotten me on this one. On a race car wouldn't it be desirable to remove the power windows in order to save weight? I've thought about this a bit, and I suppose that the answer is that it isn't cost effective to remove the power window stuff and alter the window mechanism. Or perhaps it isn't allowed in certain classes of bmwcca (or whichever club you run with)? On the wife's race car, the windows were one of the first things to go, but we tow it and the mechanism was broken anyhow. No beer and steak for answering, but I'd be appreciative. #3. E36 parts for sale - Orlando, Fl - from Shelhart2@aol.com

Date: Sat, 19 Apr 2003 23:01:44 EDT From: Shelhart2@aol.com Subject: E36 parts for sale - Orlando, Fl I have some parts that I'd like to get out of the garage. Buyer pays shipping from Orlando, Florida: 1. 4 new H&R 10mm spacers with extended lugs bought from TC Kline (Pete) in March 03 and installed for exactly 20 miles. I didn't want to roll the fenders (slight rubbing) and took them off. They cost $100 per pair + lugs. I'd be willing to sell for $150 for all 4 spacers and new lugs (everything still in box). 2. Clear signal set front and rear bought from Bekkars and decided to keep the original look. In very good condition. $125 for front turn signals and rear assembly. Clear side markers not included. 3. Stock front springs that came of the car at 65k miles. Converted to HR springs /Trackline kit. $25. 4. 1 set of 5 17 x 8 Momo Sport rims. Excellent condition (like new). I purchased new for $400 a piece and have been in the garage for the last 8 months. I run BBS RC's now. 2 have mounted Toyos with 50-60% tread left. 1 has Piolt Sport (spare). and 2 have no tires. You can see sample at www.momosport.com. Email me for pics. $600 for all 5. Email privately if interested. Have Paypal account. Have a wonderful Easter. Well the injuries to the car were terminal, so I'm stuck with a few goodies left over. I have eight stock 10 spoke Motorsport rims 7.5 width. Four of them have Kumho Ecsta 700 - R compound tires with a few autocrosses left in them. Three of the other four have slightly bent rims, easily repairable. Lug bolts galore. I have the Bentley manual with no greasy thumb prints. I have the new rear shock mounts. I have the jacking plate. All are going for a song! Since I can't use them anymore they're cheap! I don't want to fool with shipping, so only SF Bay Area please. Joe Dyer

Or do they all pretty much do the same thing? Obviously there will be differences in price and quality, but how about performance? I also don't have a CAT on the car if that makes any difference. Well okay, technically I do have a CAT, but it's in the trunk so it probably doesn't count.... Suzy

Date: Sun, 20 Apr 2003 08:51:11 -0700 From: "Jim Files" <jsf1@san.rr.com> Subject: Q - Packing & Shipping wheels Happy Easter, Group, I am in process of eBaying off some wheels from a prior car, and it occurs to me that I have not come up with a worthwhile way to pack and ship them. Any thoughts on the best way to pack them such that the rims do not get damaged in shipment? Have you had wheels shipped to you, or did you ship wheels? How did you pack them? Did you find that any particular shipping company made it easier to ship wheels? Thanks for any feedback you can provide, Jim 98 M3/2 (For the curious: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2411735936 but the bolt pattern is 5 x 114.3.)

I ended up first taping sturdy, thick pieces of cardboard front and back to cover the wheels and protect them from damage. I then wrapped each wheel/tire combo in large plastic bags (actually 2 plastic bags each just to be safe) and used plenty of shipping tape to make sure the bags wouldn't come off. The wheels and tires made the trip from Wisconsin to California with no problems.... Date: Sun, 20 Apr 2003 12:44:12 -0400 From: eevans@planetc.com Subject: Windows won't close! Speaking of window problems. All of a sudden I have 2 E36 cars that have developed the partial roll up disease. Sure some times they roll up w/o a problem, but out of 10 tries I bet I'll have it stop prematurely 6 out of 10. I've tried the hold down the button method and it hasn't solved the problem. My daughter's '93 318 does it, my '95 M3 does it, my 328is.....you get the idea. Since it's mainly the driver's side window I guessing the parts are just worn out, but why now? I've never had that happen on any other BMW w/ electric windows until now and I've owned a lot of elder Bimmers. Is this a seasonal thing? Is the East TN pollen so thick on the windows that it trips the limiter ;-). All I know is that it's very aggravating. I want my "one touch" back! Evan Evans President Smoky Mountain BMW CCA

Note that both carriers charge an additional $5.00 for each unboxed item. Date: Sun, 20 Apr 2003 13:26:08 -0400 From: "NickG" <nick@tech-nick.net> Subject: Re: [E36M3] A question for the forced induction guys Suzy, Assuming the wastegate is designed properly (big enough with enough flow to prevent boost creep), then you want the best flowing exhaust possible. Probably something with at least a single 3" pipe or dual 2.5" pipes. Any bends in the piping should be of the mandrel type (no shrinking/crimping of the pipe diameter).
