I know the '96+ M3 plugs are about 3 > times the price of the '95 M3 plugs. Actually the F7LDCR works great in the 3.2l motor. It is one heat range colder than the FGR8KQC, and has 2 less ground straps (in other words, less edges to get hot and cause knocking) I've run them in my car for the past 60K miles, and they are fine. I have that same stumble with both the 96+ and the 95 M3 plugs. Aside from the ground straps, the electrode and insulator are dimensionally identical. Lowell, come on... that air filter you have isn't a factory air filter, I think you should replace it with a stock one. ;) -kit

I assume BMW had a reason? Besides, we all know how smart those BMW engineers are - they would never do anything wrong?? ;-) Have you had both the F7LDCR and FGR8KQC spark plugs in your hand at the same time? I would compare them very carefully. There may be more differences than just temperature. Compare the length of the electrode. They need to be the same length. I would guess that BMW changed the spark plugs for fuel economy or emissions reasons. You may be polluting a little more now. Horsepower could be another question. People argue for days that their favorite spark plug increases hp. Manufacturers even claim increased hp with their new plugs. If you believe spark plugs do more than just plug a hole in the cylinder head, then you might want to know how the engine output is affected. Could increase or decrease hp. Who knows? Every dyno your car back to back with the different spark plugs? Non stock air filter but I have dyno'd my car with both and I know that the shielded air filter makes MORE hp. ;-) Lowell Seaton '95 M3 BMW CCA #131505 ----------------------------- kit writes: > Actually the F7LDCR works great in the 3.2l motor. I forget if the F7LDCR ha= s=20 a tapered seat or uses a washers. The two are incompatible. You can't use=20= a=20 tapered seat spark plug where you need a washer. And for that matter, the=20 tapers may be different between spark plugs. I don't think this is true but the ground strap may be "indexed" to the spar= k=20 plug. In other words, the strap may always be oriented at 12 and 6 o'clock.= =20 Another spark plug model might have the strap at 3 and 9 o'clock. I don't think spark plugs are this unique because it used to be an old drag=20 racer's trick to "index" the spark plugs. I forget the specifics but say it= =20 is best to have the gap pointed at the intake valve. Old racers would buy 4= 0=20 spark plugs and screw each one into the head to find the ones that point at=20 the intake valve. They would mark these spark plugs to be used only in that= =20 cylinder. Repeat 8 times for all cylinders. So perhaps the F7 plug is indexed for the 3.0L engine and the F8 plug is=20 indexed for the 3.2L engine? Just a thought. Lowell Seaton '95 M3 BMW CCA #131505

#10. Emptying Fuel Tank - from shane.a.kleinpeter@accenture.com

Date: Mon, 21 Apr 2003 16:25:56 -0400 From: shane.a.kleinpeter@accenture.com Subject: Emptying Fuel Tank <P>I need to empty the fuel tank on the race car completely and I really don't want to drive it around the neighborhood trying to burn off seven or eight gallons of gas. Does anybody have any suggestions for doing so? I was thinking about disconnecting one of the fuel lines and jumpering the fuel pump relay somehow to get the pump to run and pump the gas into cans.</P><P>Has anybody done this and can tell me how before I spend the time to figure it out? Any better ideas welcome. I considered siphoning, but it seems that would only empty half of the tank.</P><P>Thanks,</P><P>Shane K.</P><P>'96 M3</P><P>'94 325i JP # 335</P>.
