Out here in the midwest, it's pretty easy, but back where I used to live, Virginia, where it's mostly curves (FUN!) and not 3 mile straights with only a small hill to interrupt the view, it's hard to spot them in time! -matt - crappy RS POS detector that doesn't detect nearly as much as it used to :( -- matthew c. mead 97 Dakar M3/4 97 White GS-R/4 92 Black Miata 87 White Saab 900S http://www.goof.com/~mmead/

#5. Xbrace Install question.. - from Chamberlain, Jesse
Top
Date: Fri, 25 Apr 2003 10:14:38 -0400 From: "Chamberlain, Jesse" <jchamb06@harris.com> Subject: Xbrace Install question.. I am about to put in an Xbrace on my car, and I need to enlarge the holes in the front subframe. I know how to install the nutserts and have a "tool" to do it, so thats not a problem. I know that the nutserts need an 11.0mm hole. But, question for the people that have enlarged the holes in the front sub-frame, what size drill bit did you use? I know, 11mm. :) But, I can't seem to find an 11mm (.4331") drill bit anywhere. I do have a 7/16th" drill bit which is 11.11mm, which is slightly larger than the nutsert. I drilled a hole in a piece of scrap metal, and when I inserted the nutsert, there wasn't any side to side play, but it does spin freely. I'm wondering if I will have a problem installing the nutsert with a hole made with a 7/16th drill bit?? I don't want to drill the 7/16th" hole and then realize that the hole is too big. I am hoping to tackle this project this weekend. Anyone know a place in the Rochester NY area that you can buy a 11mm drill bit?? Thanks! Jesse Chamberlain jchamb06@harris.com

Most later model M3s already have the nutserts installed so all you need to do is install the brace. Can't tell you where to get the drill but will highly recommend talking to Randy at Phoenix Imports in East Rochester if you need any help. Excellent service and frequently the on-site mechanic for the GVC drivers schools at Watkins Glen. My understanding is that BMW CCA membership is required for admittance. I'm arriving Friday evening and will be staying at the Falls Motel in Montour Falls, about 10 minutes from the track. Anyone wants to get together that night let me know. Carey Genesee Valley and Patroon Chapters, BMW CCA '99 M3 '86 325e soon to have i cam and become track car.

If your car is an M3 it probably has the nutserts installed from the factory. My 95 (7/95 production) did. If not, a 7/16 drill should only be .004" oversize and should work just fine.
