#2. Rust Under Hood Lip - from Kevin McLeaster

Date: Mon, 28 Apr 2003 19:45:00 -0500 From: Kevin McLeaster <kmcleaster@iquest.net> Subject: Rust Under Hood Lip I had the hood up this weekend to let some heat escape between runs at the autocross and was horrified to notice some rust on the underside of hood lip. The car is a '95 with 67,000 mi. There is no sign of a paint fault or chip, it looks like it is rusting underneath the seam sealing stuff that's slightly soft. Has anyone else experienced this? Recommendations on fixing the problem? The area is very small and there is no exterior involvement, so I'm tempted to fix it myself if there is a procedure somewhere that I could use to assure a lasting repair. I plan to keep the car about another 100K miles. Thanks, Kevin D. McLeaster WB9HMI '95 M3 Arctic Silver

Too much fuel makes them go bad faster than normal (melts the brick). This is usually an o2 sensor. Did you have a drop in fuel mileage recently? I had my car dynoed on April 19th at a regional dent & dyno fest here in Ohio. There were a few other M3s there. I pulled 223 rwhp on a Dynojet with my 1995 M3 with Conforti Chip & Intake so I was pretty pleased. There was also a 1997 M3 that had cams which managed 245 rwhp (Brian Leib). But, most interesting was a mostly stock 1995 M3 (fan delete mod, a lightweight flywheel, the 3.2 clutch kit, the air box restrictor mod and the fan shroud fan flap delete, K&N dropin) which managed 228 rwhp! So, maybe Bruce in Texas has been dethroned?!? Albeit, the fan was removed in the car above and it did have a K&N drop-in filter :-) There was also a VW turbo beetle there that managed 279 rwhp.... The cat is convered under the emissions warranty, which we just recently discussed on the list - 8 yrs, 80k miles from the date of purchase. If it is bad, you should be able to get a new one from the dealer under that warranty. I was able to get a new cat because the heat shield that's part of the cat assembly was rattling. Andrej '97 M3

I know how to do it on > the E30. I'm making 222hp and 224tq on my 94 325is and my 95 M3 is making 392hp and 419tq to the rear wheels on aa's mustang dyno. I'm trying to get a extended lunch and dyno both cars at aa, and get it over to South Florida Performance to dyno and see the hp / tq difference. BTW the 94 325is is stock too! 17lbs inj, 3.0" hfm stock airbox, hks rear exhaust, obd1 exhaust mani fold and single pipe (92-95) catalyst / resonator Best Regards, Rey Tong Miami, FL __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Date: Mon, 28 Apr 2003 22:49:00 -0400 From: HyperM3@aol.com Subject: Car pulls under braking Hey all, So lately my car has been acting weird. Under braking it pulls to the left, under harder braking it really pulls to where i have to yank the wheel. The tire pressures are same all around and the brakes are not wearing unevenly. I've been thinking its the rtb's since i get pull when shifting hard. But can they affect braking? Any ideas? Alex "HyperM3" Demsky 97 S/C M3 ~ http://hometown.aol.com/hyperm3/Bimmer.html
