The factory bolt has a 14mm shoulder, with a snug fit. With the 12mm bolt, there is extra "slop". Use the extra slop to add or remove camber, then tighten the bolt, a lot. If it loostens and slips, your camber has changed. This really isn't a good method to get camber, since it's very hard to get an accurate setting, and it's too easy to have it slip. IIRC, the shims give you about 1 degree per 0.080". I have a pack of 0.028" AN washers. If you use home depot washers, the thickness varies a lot. I'd definitely recommend against using the 12mm bolt to get camber....that's just a poor bandaid. But, since you have a '97, you can swap strut bearings left to right for a drastic change or you can use '95M3 strut bearings. To fine tune, you can definitely use shims. I'm looking for a shop to buff and wax my wife's dark green '99 540iT. I took it to a very reputable shop - Diablo - that quoted me $550. I was hoping to get by with maybe half that. I'll settle for 90% for half the price - this is not a show car, it doesn't have to be perfect, just in need of some cleanup after the 50K miles that the first owner put on. thx. Scott '98 M3 - white, thank GOD '99 540iT '01 Suburban '91 Corvette - black, but it's a track car, so who cares?

I measured them to get ones that were close to the same size. I bought the BMW "crash" bolts. But, after seeing them, decided not to use them. Too much likelyhood of changes to the alignment settings. BTW, if you keep your front toe close to zero, you don't have to worry about wear. I ran -2, with the washers for quite a while with minimal inside wear. Now I'm running -3, with swapped hats. Zero toe. Street and track. Camber changed from -1.1 to -2.3 on both ends. Street-tire wear is great and on the track, the car seems somewhat neutral. Korman sells this kit, however Neil Maller sent me the bolts and shims. I don't have the exact part number, but you can make your own kit for around $5. Note that I needed 10 mm spacers and longer nuts (Rogue Eng.) since 245/45 tire on 8*17 wheel would rub on the strut. Your camber changes would depend on your strut/spring combo as well. I am running stock springs with Bilsteins and the car sits higher than stock. If you car is lower, you will experience more -ive camber. Hope this helps. Ahmad Lutfeali 98 M3/2 Atlanta I do need a little more camber in front, as I am only running -1.1 degrees (saves my street tires). I'm looking to go to -1.5 degrees. My BMW mechanic recently installed the camber bolt, but how do you use this? Also, how much camber do you get when you add one standard shim washer at the base of the strut? I forget? Hi Scott, My co-driver used Thorpe Auto Detailing in Campbell for his Explorer and M Coupe and I was very impressed with their work. I do my own detailing at home, but if I didn't, I would use Thorpe. <http://yp.yahoo.com/py/ypMap.py?Pyt=Typ&tuid=13208139&ck=2017149688&tab=B2C&tcat=95864917&city=Campbell&state=CA&country=us&msa=7400&slt=37.287109&sln=-121.948647&cs=4&stat=:pos:0:regular:regT:1:fbT:0> -- Rex Tener rex_tener@yahoo.com

Kumho told him the K8A number is the old compound, and the new compound is the K6A. They may send me a new tire, if the DOT # shows it was manufactured with the "old" compound.
