Regarding JC versus Dinan Versus anyone....I'm not sure just because Car A responds better with one product it follows that Car B will also. There is just too much variation in a car's build when dealing with this level of "tuning". We all know the value in a true custom tune. I've often though that a "poor man's" custom tune would be to go out and buy a chip from JC, Dinan, AA, APE, etc., and run them through a dyno test. Keep the one that works best, and send the others back. I bet if you did that with 10 different 95 M3s....you may end up with different chips on most of 'em. Roger '95 M3....JC Chip.

Does anyone have this > setup or know > of any clearance issues with or without spacers? Calling the folks at TireRack is usually a good way to answer these kinds of questions, but I'll also throw out my experience. I have the Eibach ProKit springs which drop the car ~1" all around. I use 10mm spacers in the front - not for a fuller look, but to clear the struts when using wider tires for track days. Given that I've used 245 Kumhos with the spacers and still have plenty of room on the outside, I'm sure you could go with 15mm spacers easily with 235/40s, probably even 20mm, and not rub the wheel well or fender on the outside. You'd probably be OK even with the greater drop you are considering. I think it's a good idea to go with studs, since it's not uncommon for the longer lug bolts used with spacers to shear off, at least under track conditions. Just remember that you need to figure out how big of a spacer you will want to use first, since that will dictate how long of a stud you will need. Turner Motorsports and TC Kline both sell studs in varying sizes, btw. (No affiliation, just 2 sources I know of.) Also be aware that some would caution you against using spacers at all, or at least those larger than a certain size, simply because of the additional force they put on the hub and lug bolts (or studs if you go that route.) OTOH many have used big spacers w/out any problems. I'd probably draw the line at 20mm, but that's just me. - Bill

#4. FS: (4) 10 MM HR spacers and lugs - from Shelhart2@aol.com

Date: Mon, 19 May 2003 21:33:44 EDT From: Shelhart2@aol.com Subject: FS: (4) 10 MM HR spacers and lugs I still have these new in the box spacers from TC Kline (Pete) that caused some rubbing on my 1998 with the Trackline kit and HR Springs. I run 235 40 17's and had some rubbing on cornering and over mild bumps. I have the new lugs as well. Each set was $100 each new. The were mounted for only 20 miles and then put back in the box. I'd sell all 4 spacers and new ugs for $135 + shipping. Shel Hart Orlando, Fl.

#6. Carroll Smith passes away - from Mel Silva

Date: Mon, 19 May 2003 22:06:18 -0500 From: "Mel Silva" <melsilva@mindspring.com> Subject: Carroll Smith passes away I have copied this sad news from another list I belong to. Apparently, Mr. Smith lost his battle with pancreatic cancer and passed away yesterday. If you don't know who Carroll Smith is, I'm sorry, you really should if you do any sort of DE. His volumes of work are pretty much required reading for anyone trying to be their own pit crew, crew chief, driver and car builder. Although I have never met him, unlike some of my friends, I will miss him nonetheless.

#7. Track Time at Laguna - This Friday - from Mark Dadgar

Date: Mon, 19 May 2003 20:32:43 -0700 From: Mark Dadgar <mark@pdc-racing.net> Subject: Track Time at Laguna - This Friday If anyone in California desperately needs a track fix, my good friend Todd Serota has openings at Laguna Seca in his TracQuest event this Friday. I'm a TracQuest instructor, so I may be biased, but these are great events for both advanced drivers (liberal passing rules, LOTS of track time) as well as beginning drivers (great instruction, safe passing rules, LOTS of track time). There's always a killer selection of go-fast hardware there, too (think: lots of P-cars with turbos, red things from Maranello, etc). And Laguna is, well, Laguna. Sign-ups are at www.tracquest.com. - Mark, can't make this event, will be at Thunderhill at the end of June, though -- mark@pdc-racing.net

They are supposedly the replacement for the noisey RE730. I can't decide on these or the Yoko AVS ES100. Also, what is the best spark plug for the '95 M3? I used Bosch last time, but I am considering NGK's this time. I get a slight, occasional miss with the Bosch plugs. Thanks, Kevin D. McLeaster WB9HMI '95 M3 Arctic Silver

I'll second that (I'm also a TQ instructor and I will be there with my LWT) -- well run events, where the students have a great time and learn a lot. -- ______________________________________ Andrew E.
